⚡At the Munich Security Conference this month, leaders and experts in our Energy Security Hub discussed the crucial question of how Europe can accelerate the transition to affordable, low-carbon energy and achieve true energy independence. 💡While China and the US are setting the pace in e-mobility, cleantech and artificial intelligence, Europe has a unique opportunity to cement an even stronger global role in cleantech: We have the talent, the resources and the innovation to not only keep pace, but to take the lead in clean energy technology. 🤝Let's unite for a common goal: to foster innovation, boost industrial production and future-proof society for the benefit of all! Only together can we do it! 📹 Watch the full recap video and all panels on our Youtube channel: https://lnkd.in/grT3f-ac #EnergySecurityHub #MSC2025 #Innovation #Collaboration #BMWFoundation

„You here in Europe, in Germany, should not forget that we are not only defending our lives and our homeland. We are also defending every single one of you, and a free and safe Europe.‘ Vitali Vitali Klitschko at our Energy Security Hub on the Panel ‚Kyiv at a Crossroads? Security, Reconstruction, and Energy Resilience‘ where he shared his experiences as mayor of a city that is heavily under attack since 3 years and how it affects the daily life of millions of people. He also explained how he manages to go on and find hope, strength, and resilience in dire times. 📹Noel Laas & Aidan Rolls #EnergySecurityHub #Resilience #Future #Peace #Hope

Beyond Funding: How Partnerships are Powering the Energy Transition The energy transition demands more than just technological innovation—it requires collaboration at an unprecedented scale. Public, private, and philanthropic sectors each have unique strengths, but when they come together, the impact is exponentially greater. Our panel explored how PPPPs can drive energy security and innovation. 🗝️ Some key takeaways: ✅ Real partnerships require shared risk and responsibility—it’s not just about funding but about equity and seeing eye to eye. ✅ Philanthropy isn’t just about giving; it’s about systems change. It can bring in private capital, data, and business cases while ensuring scale and impact. ✅ Large institutions must embrace partnerships and take risks—because mobilizing talent matters more than just mobilizing money. As John Studzinski put it, “It’s not about money it’s about mobilizing talent – money is just a tool and good philanthropy doesn’t start with money but with activism and being disruptive.” 💪 Lets get down to business! How can we better align these sectors to create real, lasting change? 🚀 📸Marc Beckmann #EnergySecurityHub #Innovation #PrivatePublicPhilanthropicPartnerships #Action

EU Comisssons view on Securing Europe’s Future and Strengthening Resilience Amidst Global Competition - Compete or Fall Behind? In a rapidly shifting global landscape, strengthening resilience is key. In his keynote, Valdis Dombrovskis (European Commission) laid out a strategy for strengthening Europe’s economic security amidst rising geopolitical tensions. Key Takeaways: 1️⃣ No security, no stability: “There can be no stable and secure Europe without peace in Ukraine.” Ukraine’s fight is not just for itself but for all of us. 2️⃣ Risk based investments are needed – the four main risks the EU faces are: 1. Supply chain resilience & energy security 2. Infrastructure & grid stability 3. Tech leadership & cybersecurity 4. Managing economic dependencies & trade 3️⃣ China & strategic dependencies: The EU has to focus on de-risking, not decoupling—ensuring fair competition without full economic separation. 4️⃣ Tariffs & trade: The EU should respond to U.S. measures with a measured and proportionate approach. However, Europe should not neglect its strengths like a highly skilled workforce, strong social safety nets, and large private capital: As Valdis Dombrovskis put it: “Europe has everything it needs to compete—if it takes decisive action.” ❔ The question remains: Do we wish to be players or merely spectators? ❕ Europe can emerge strong, secure, and prosperous—but only if it acts now. #EnergySecurityHub #Innovation #Future #Energy #Resilience #Security

Eastern Edge: Asia’s Global Ascendance Our panel explored the seismic shift in global power as the center of economic growth moves from West to East. But Asia is far from a monolith. Hina Rabbani Khar cautioned: “It would be a mistake to see Asia as one block.” And Siddharth Mohandas added: “The most important thing for the future of the region is to develop and defend a shared vision of the Indo-Pacific that is free and open.” 🗝️ Key takeaways: 1️⃣ Economic & Demographic Shifts: Global indicators confirm that Asia is now at the heart of economic growth, positioning China and India as major players on the world stage. 2️⃣ Political Nuances: Despite its economic rise, the region remains politically diverse. Countries like South Korea and Singapore are actively building alliances with both Asian neighbors and Western partners. 3️⃣ Geopolitical Complexity: The discussion highlighted the challenges and opportunities of navigating Asia’s complex geopolitical landscape, particularly as the competition between China and India intensifies The discussion deepened the understanding of Asia’s ascent and set the stage for further dialogue on what the future holds in this rapidly evolving global landscape. #EnergySecurityHub #Future #Asia #Europe #Innovation #Geopolicy #Shifts

Energy Resilience Leadership Group (ERLG) on moving Europe out of the (Energy) comfort zone. Ann Mettler moderated the discussion, which made it clear: innovation and security must go hand in hand if Europe is to reduce dependency on external suppliers and strengthen its geopolitical and economic stability. 🗝️ Key Insights: ⚡ The urgency of scaling clean energy: “Innovation and entrepreneurship are the most important ingredients to accelerate the transition and making change happen on the ground. Implementing and solving is possible - and the time is now. “ - Dr. Heba Aguib, BMW Foundation 🚧 Overcoming barriers to innovation: “Complexity is the antithesis of innovation. Rules are not entirely bad, but you cannot regulate your way into the future. If we don’t trust certain elements and the industry, we will be too slow.” – Christian Bruch, Siemens Energy 🤝 The power of collaboration: “Public and private sectors must shift from a controller-enabler dynamic to peer-to-peer collaboration. The public sector cannot do it alone.” – Ann Mettler, Breakthrough Energy With contributions from Christian Bruch (Siemens Energy), Sarah Lamaison (Dioxycle), Eva Maydell (Paunova) (European Parliament), Anders Opedal (Equinor), Helmut Schoenenberger, (UnternehmerTUM), Philip Kessler (TURN2X) and John O'Donnell, the panel underscored that Europe’s energy resilience depends on bold action and cross-sector partnerships. What’s next? The momentum must continue. Europe needs to its leave comfort zone and take risks. Scaling clean energy solutions isn’t just a necessity—it’s an opportunity to build a stronger, more independent Europe while ensuring energy security. Thanks to all partners of the ERLG for the great panel on 'Balancing Innovation and Security in the European Energy Transition`, and congratulations on the two year birthday of the ERLG! 🥳 Let’s keep the conversation going—join our livestream https://bit.ly/MSC25LIVE or drop by if you are Munich Security Conference accredited. #EnergySecurityHub #MSC25 #Energy #Security #CleanTech #Innovation #Leadership
