  • 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗶𝗴 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆 🌐 #Platformisation is transforming the world of work. New jobs and career opportunities are opening up—especially for women. The promise of flexible working hours and earning extra income makes working on digital labour platforms an easy option for many workers to use their skills as a currency. Women are a large part of this thriving #DigitalEconomy. Some studies suggest that up to 42% of all gig workers are women! Mostly invisible. 🚧 Women workers face unique barriers in the #GigEconomy: unequal opportunities, gender pay gaps, algorithmic biases, lack of basic social protections, safety and security concerns. This results in wage inequality, inability to maximise their potential, and limited growth prospects. 📢 '𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗟𝗟 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀: 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀. 𝗘𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆. 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁.' This year’s 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻’𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆 reminds us that digital societies can be built responsibly only when women have equal access to skills and economic empowerment. Our Gig Economy initiative has been bridging this #GenderGap since 2022 by offering human-centred capacity building for workers and women policy leaders. Several tools such as e-Learning, mentorship, trainings, and policy dialogues have been implemented around the world—empowering women workers to shape their future, freely. • 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗙𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵: 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗔𝗜 𝗶𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 🤖 The rise of artificial intelligence (#AI) is transforming industries at an unprecedented pace. Once thought to be immune to automation, creative professions—such as graphic design, copywriting, and translation—are now at the center of this shift. But instead of replacing human expertise, AI is changing what #skills matter most. 📰 In his article for Tagesspiegel Background Digitalisierung & KI, Fabian Stephany, Junior Professor for AI and Work at the Oxford Internet Institute, University of Oxford, explores how AI is reshaping the labour market. Research shows that AI-driven shifts don’t eliminate jobs—they reshape them. Key to success in this new landscape is continuous learning and adaptability. Human capabilities like resilience, teamwork, and critical thinking are becoming even more essential. 🚀 This is where strategic skill development becomes crucial. Together with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH on behalf of the Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ), the Institute developed '𝗨𝗽𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹', an innovative tool that helps freelancers and professionals stay competitive by identifying the most in-demand skills worldwide. Because the future of work isn’t about fearing automation—it’s about leveraging it for inclusive growth. Find out more 👉 https://lnkd.in/dWDTx3gj #UpSkill #SkillGap

🤖 #AI: 𝗔 𝗚𝗮𝗺𝗲-𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 – 𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗿 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗲? Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming our world. It holds immense potential: from improving healthcare and climate action to creating millions of jobs. Yet, it also comes with risks—disinformation, deepfakes, and increasing global inequalities. As AI development is largely driven by the USA, China, and the UK, how can Europe position itself in this race? And how do we ensure AI remains a force for good? 🌍 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝗮𝗽𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲. 𝗚𝗲𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲𝗱! At the #AIActionSummit in Paris, global leaders emphasized the need for responsible AI that benefits everyone—not just a select few. The Summit was also a further step towards the Hamburg Declaration on Responsible AI for the SDGs, set for launch at the #HamburgSustainabilityConference in June 2025. As a collaborative effort led by UNDP and BMZ the declaration aims to boost sustainable development through AI, focusing on empowering emerging communities. Endorsed by a diverse and broad alliance of stakeholders it is intended to create a shared global understanding of how responsible AI can drive better development outcomes. 𝗨𝗻𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆 Data is one of the most valuable resources of our time—but who benefits from it? 📊 While data has the potential to drive innovation, economic growth, and social progress, its benefits are often unequally distributed. Most data is owned by the private sector, which profits from its analysis. To ensure fair access and equitable representation in the #DataEconomy, the public and the private sectors need to work together. 🎙️In the latest 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 #podcast episode, we explore the role of public-private partnerships in shaping a data-driven future. Host Martina Karaparusheva joins Treasure Maphanga and Thelma Quaye to discuss their insights on bridging the #GenderGap, fostering digital entrepreneurship, and creating policies that work for everyone. Why? Because they cannot access or get information from AI tools in their language. 🗨️ "Imagine a farmer in Kenya who is fluent in Swahili but does not read English well," says Balthas Seibold, co-lead of the initiative 'FAIR Forward – Artificial Intelligence for All'. "How can she benefit from any real-time digital advice to plant her crops, or be warned early on about a drought, if all AI-powered information is in English?" 🤝 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗿𝘂𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 This is why, at the #AIActionSummit in Paris, the Gates Foundation and the governments of Canada and the UK pledged up to $10 million – complemented by technical support through the Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) – to support partners on the continent to close the African #LanguageGap in AI. 🤖 #FAIRForward has been promoting inclusive African language AI for years with partners like Masakhane, a grassroots network of over 2,500 researchers who are advancing language AI for Africans, by Africans.
