Capacity Building Marketplace UNCCD

Capacity building is a key element of achieving land degradation neutrality (LDN). The creation, expansion, correct application and sharing of knowledge, skills and techniques is essential to the result-oriented implementation of the UNCCD and its 2018–2030 Strategic Framework. For this strategy to be successful, we need to create and strengthen capacities in science, technology, and human resources. From the beginning of the UNCCD process, Parties identified the lack of capacity as a major stumbling block to effectively implement the Convention. Over the years, the Conferences of the Parties (COP) has called for the development and strengthening of capacity – in particular at the grassroots level. The COP has adopted many decisions concerning capacity building, and the 10-Year Strategy emphasizes capacity building as a key UNCCD operational objective. The pursuit of capacity building in this process is multifaceted, complex, and demands various resources. It is therefore important that this is done through partnership building and the harnessing of available resources. It is also crucial that these resources are mobilized and that all stakeholders play their roles so that there is a comprehensive approach to the process. The Capacity Building Marketplace plays an instrumental role in UNCCD’s work. It provides a public space where science, technology, and human capital resources are brought together in one location to work toward implementing the Convention. The Capacity Building Marketplace connects capacity-related needs and solutions concerning the implementation of the UNCCD. The Marketplace helps individuals and organizations find and offer current knowledge, funding, and job opportunities. It invites stakeholders to contribute relevant content and network with interested parties.
