Every time #biochar comes up in conversation, its remarkable surface area never fails to impress. With a surface of up to 500m2 per single gram(!), biochar's porous structure is akin to a superhero cloak, enabling it to 💧 retain water at 5 times its own weight 🌱 absorb pollutants and nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorus and 🐛 serve as a habitat for beneficial microorganisms. 🌏 On top, quality biochar is a stable form of carbon that can persist for millennia, effectively capturing and storing climate threatening carbon dioxide. While these benefits are well-known, the innovation of creating biochar from #biogas #digestate and crediting the ensuing climate impact to #biofuels is truly groundbreaking. 👏 At Carbon Farming Germany we are thrilled to wake up to the news that the #eu has agreed on a final legislative text that will serve as the gold standard for carbon removal #cdr certification - the #crcf 🇪🇺 🌱 Why is this so exiting? Though we have yet to wait on the details, we know the framework will draw a distinct line between carbon removals, carbon mitigation and greenwashing. This should bring along stability in the industry and foster much needed investments in the many promising CDR projects out there. ⛽ The last few years we have worked hard on developing and optimizing our Carbon Farming and Carbon Capture & Storage technologies and look forward to introducing our truly carbon-negative fuel #beyondzero very soon. 🔄 A carbon-negative fuel? It is time to reimagine the production of biofuel and merge carbon removals with mobility. Following a successful test run in Nov. '23, we are getting ready to prepare the first industrial carbon removal + biofuel site with annual CO2 removals of 75.000 tons and additionally enough green fuel to fully propel 300 large LNG trucks - at no cost for the climate or our ecosystem.
