What’s next for scaling carbon removal in Germany and Europe? This Wednesday, our CDR supplier dinner in Berlin brought together an incredible group of carbon removal pioneers and experts including representatives from ecoLocked, Novocarbo, Blue Skies Minerals GmbH, Everest Carbon, Made of Air, Pyreg GmbH, InPlanet, Carbon to Sea Initiative, NeoCarbon, Inspiratus Technologies, ZeroEx, and many more. The evening was a chance to discuss the day-to-day challenges suppliers face, their needs, and how we can unlock the full potential of carbon removal in Germany and Europe with the right policies and support. Moderated by Carbonfuture’s Sebastian Manhart, we heard from: 🔹 Carla Glassl (Ucaneo) 🔹 Pascal Hader-Weinmann (German Energy Agency (dena)) 🔹 Stefan Schlosser (Deutscher Verband für negative Emissionen e.V. (DVNE)) Key takeaways: 🔵 Germany and Europe leading the way: The global CDR industry could grow into a €940 billion market by 2050. Europe—and especially Germany—has the potential to play a leading role, creating up to 190,000 jobs annually and unlocking a €70B market in Germany alone. 🔵 Policy signals matter: Clear government targets for CDR are needed to inspire confidence, accelerate technological innovation, and help suppliers scale while ensuring alignment with high-quality standards. 🔵 Infrastructure and financing are critical: From better connections with infrastructure partners to alternative financing mechanisms, novel CDR providers emphasized the need for support in attracting investment to get projects off the ground. 🔵 Business models with diverse support structures: Relying on one subsidy alone isn’t enough. We need to build multi-layered support for projects to reduce single points of failure and help suppliers scale sustainably. 🔵 Focus on quality: As the market matures, robust systems like dMRV (digital Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification) will remain indispensable in ensuring that every tonne of carbon removed is reliable and transparent. The evening was filled with inspiring discussions, shared challenges, and a collective commitment to scaling durable carbon removal. Events like these remind us of the importance of ecosystem building—working together, sharing knowledge, and advocating for the tools, policies, and partnerships needed to grow the industry. What do you think is most critical to help CDR suppliers scale? Let us know in the comments. Adam Sipthorpe Tanner Felbinger #CDR #CarbonRemoval #NetZero #dMRV #sustainability #ClimateAction
