📓 Buchvorstellung und Podiumsgespräch: „Zeiten ohne Wende: Anatomie eines Scheiterns“   am Donnerstag, 28. November 2024, 18:30 Uhr an der Universität der Bundeswehr München (UniBw M) im Audimax, Geb. 33/100     Zwei Jahre lang ist Christian Schweppe durchs Land gereist und hat beobachtet, was aus der versprochenen Zeitenwende jenseits von Ankündigungen und Plänen wirklich geworden ist. Der Investigativjournalist hat mit einfachen Soldaten und ranghohen Generälen gesprochen; er hat militärische Einrichtungen besucht, Papiere ausgewertet und politische Akteure befragt. Our Crisis Early Warning Team 👏🤩

Wie gelingt Crisis Early Warning? Mit dieser Frage setzen sich 75 Teilnehmer des CCEW Symposiums 2024 an der #unibwm auseinander. Das Kompetenzzentrum Krisenfrüherkennung an der Universität der Bundeswehr München richtet ein Symposium zum Thema „Predictive Synergies: Crisis Early Warning & Foresight“ aus. Am 19. und 20. September 2024 findet die Veranstaltung an der #unibwm statt. „Das Interesse am Crisis Early Warning ist gestiegen. Unser Symposium ist im Laufe der Zeit immer wichtiger geworden“, erklärt Prof. Carlo Masala (Foto li.), Direktor des Center for Intelligence and Security Studies (CISS) und Projektleiter des Kompetenzzentrum Krisenfrüherkennung (KompZ KFE) an der #unibwm in seiner Eröffnungsrede. Weiter erläutert er: „Unsere Forschungsergebnisse und Konzepte sollen als Grundlage für die künftige Entwicklung von Krisenfrühwarnsystemen dienen.“ Mit solchen Frühwarnsystemen sollen Krisen und Konflikte anhand von Forschungsergebnissen frühzeitig erkannt und ihnen somit vorgebeugt werden. 🖥 🔊 Our colleague Verena Jackson gave a presentation at the 23rd Congress of the International Society for Military Law and the Law of War in Vilnius, Lithuania last month. The congress was organized with the support of the Krašto apsaugos ministerija | Ministry of National Defence of Lithuania. In times of increasing international tensions, growing legal uncertainties and new technological challenges, she spoke about the "#Legal Aspects of #Cyber Activities during #Peace #Operations".

  📞 Call for Papers for the Annual Conference of the Thematic Group "Critical Security Studies" at CISS is out   Submit your proposal now for the conference of the DVPW group at CISS   From 6-7 November 2024, the open annual conference of the thematic group "Critical Security Studies" of the German Political Science Association (DVPW) will take place in cooperation with the Center for Intelligence and Security Studies at the University of the Federal Armed Forces Munich. The Call for Papers can be found here (in German only): (https://lnkd.in/dZj2yAxA)   The research field of Critical Security Studies brings together different perspectives on policies and practices of (in)security. What these diverse approaches have in common is that they aim to go beyond traditional, often realistically inspired approaches focussed on military (national) security. From these perspectives, for example, the rise of right-wing parties and movements in Europe becomes not only a question of security policy, but also of social policy, and the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine cannot be explained purely in terms of realist geopolitics.   The thematic group aims to provide a forum within the German debate in which the various (sub-)disciplinary debates are brought together and an exchange on the development of inter- and transdisciplinary research agendas in this field is facilitated. It sees itself explicitly as an "open forum, not bound to a specific paradigm, for scholars from various fields of political science and neighbouring disciplines to exchange views on common interests and issues relating to the 'politics of (in)security'" (https://lnkd.in/dgbc_c23). Conference presentations can be based on papers on specific issues, but a classic scientific conference paper is not mandatory. Please send proposals for conference papers (max. 200 words) by 26 July 2024 to: kritischesicherheitsstudien@dvpw.de. Membership in the thematic group or the DVPW is not a prerequisite for participation, the event is open to all interested parties.   The conference will take place from 6 to 7 November 2024 at the Universität der Bundeswehr München. Unfortunately, travel and accommodation costs cannot be covered. It is planned to organise the programme in such a way that it should be possible to arrive on 6 November and depart on 7 November.
