We’re excited to announce that CMR Surgical has been granted U.S. FDA Marketing Authorization for the use of #Versius in Cholecystectomy. The FDA marketing authorization of #Versius is a significant milestone, with Versius being the first multi-port, soft tissue general surgical Robotic Assisted Surgical Device (RASD) to successfully be authorized through FDA’s De Novo application process. Versius is a RASD intended to assist in the precise and accurate control of Versius Surgical endoscopic instruments and is indicated in the U.S. for adult patients 22 years of age and older, eligible for soft tissue minimal access surgery, for cholecystectomy. Congratulations to the urology department at Städtisches Krankenhaus Kiel in Germany who have completed their first cases using #Versius in a first for the DACH region! Urologists Dr. Moritz Hamann, Dr. Christof van der Horst and Dr. Hana Massad with the support of the the wider urology team have successfully performed a number of prostatectomies at the clinic with #Versius. Dr. Moritz Hamann, Urologist at Städtisches Krankenhaus Kiel who performed the first case with Versius said: “We’re excited to have started this exciting new chapter with #Versius. The versatility of the system has enabled our team to perform complex urological procedures such as prostatectomies without changing our existing approach to the procedure, and easily incorporate the surgical robot into our existing surgical practice. We look forward to further expanding our use of the robot for the benefit of our patients.” The urology department are the first in the clinic to use the system, with plans to expand into additional specialties. As featured on BBC News, a four-month-old baby boy is the youngest child in the world to successfully have surgery using Versius, at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust's Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital (RMCH). Baby Mohammed, weighed just six kilogrammes, when he underwent a robotic pyeloplasty at RMCH as part of a multicentre prospective clinical trial on the use of Versius in paediatric surgery. The small, modular design of #Versius, coupled with its 5mm wristed instruments allow surgeons to operate in small, hard to reach spaces within an operating zone while maintaining clear access to the patient for the wider surgical team. At RMCH, Versius has enabled them to increase their case volume to two cases per day, enabling the team to treat more patients like 10-year-old Harry, who also recently underwent robotic pyeloplasty surgery with #Versius.
