Ein voller Erfolg: Unser Decaf-Cupping im Johann Jacobs Haus! 🎉☕ Am 17. Januar durften wir gemeinsam mit dem Johann Jacobs Haus GmbH ein einzigartiges Cupping-Event in Bremen veranstalten – und was sollen wir sagen? Das Interesse war überwältigend! 💥 Wir hatten so viele Anmeldungen, dass wir sogar eine Warteliste führen mussten. Danke an alle, die dabei waren und an diejenigen, die uns für die nächste Runde schon jetzt ihr Interesse signalisiert haben. 🙌 Bei der Verkostung im Rahmen von “The Decaf Project” von James Hoffmann, ging es um die spannende Frage, wie verschiedene Entkoffeinierungsverfahren und Röststile den Geschmack von Spezialitätenkaffee beeinflussen. Wir haben Decaf-Varianten desselben Rohkaffees probiert, darunter unser Carbonic Natural®-Verfahren. Besonders spannend: Während einige Varianten direkt zugeordnet werden konnten, blieb es bei anderen ein Rätsel, das wir gemeinsam gelöst haben. 🕵️♂️ Wir sind stolz darauf, dass so viele Branchenkolleg:innen und Kaffee-Liebhaber:innen mit uns in die Welt des Decaf eingetaucht sind. 🌟 A unique coffee tasting experience with James Hoffmann ☕ Last Sunday was a big day for the coffee community – the live Decaf tasting event hosted by James Hoffmann on his YouTube channel was an absolute highlight! This session offered coffee lovers a rare opportunity to explore the fascinating world of decaffeination like never before. For the first time, participants tasted the same coffee processed through three different decaffeination methods, alongside the caffeinated version. It was a chance to compare how each process shapes flavor and complexity – and the feedback from the community has been overwhelmingly positive! We at CR3 were thrilled to be part of The Decaf Project, proudly showcasing how our Carbonic Natural® process consistently delivers exceptional quality and taste. GLYPHOSATE: New Insights into Coffee Processing and Consumer Safety ☕ We’re proud to announce that our colleagues Meike Holtmann from ANKA and Oliver Süße-Herrmann from CR3 Analytik have significantly contributed to a groundbreaking scientific study titled “Glyphosate losses through various stages of coffee production and consequences for human exposure.” This research examines how elevated glyphosate residues in green coffee beans (Arabica and Robusta) are impacted by various stages of coffee processing and preparation. The study focused on green beans with glyphosate levels exceeding the EU maximum residue level (0.14–0.21 mg/kg). These beans were roasted to varying degrees and used for different coffee preparations, including filter coffee, espresso, ristretto, and instant coffee. 🔎 Key findings from the study include: • The most significant glyphosate degradation occurs during roasting, where the content is often reduced by more than 70 %. • Preparation methods influence glyphosate transfer: while filter and instant coffee lead to almost complete transfer of glyphosate into the beverage, espresso and ristretto exhibit lower transfer rates due to reduced water usage. • Final glyphosate content in a cup of coffee is minimal, typically below 0.4 µg per cup, ensuring low consumer exposure. This research demonstrates how coffee processing plays a critical role in reducing potential glyphosate risks, even in beans with unusually high initial contamination levels. ☕️ We had the pleasure of welcoming James Hoffmann to our facility for an in-depth look at our Carbonic Natural®decaffeination process! During his visit, James explored each step of our unique, natural process that preserves the authentic character of coffee without the caffeine. With a hands-on tour, we shared how our natural carbon dioxide from the Vulkaneifel is carefully used to decaffeinate while keeping the flavor, aroma, and essence of the coffee intact. This collaboration is part of James’s larger decaf project, aimed at educating roasters and coffee enthusiasts worldwide on the diverse decaffeination methods and their impact on flavor. We’re proud to work alongside James and Caravela Coffee in representing a new era for premium decaffeinated coffee.
