The kick-off meeting for the newly approved project "Combatting Censorship and Discrimination against Journalists with Intersecting Backgrounds in Turkey" took place in Istanbul 🇹🇷, marking the official launch of this significant initiative. The project’s specific focus is on countering censorship and discrimination faced by journalists with intersecting and vulnerable backgrounds. By supporting CSOs through networking 🤝, monitoring, and advocacy, the initiative addresses all priorities of the call for proposals, contributing to a more resilient, inclusive, and democratic society in Turkey. The meeting provided an opportunity for consortium members to convene and discuss the project’s activities, milestones, and anticipated impact. With a duration of 36 months 🗓️, the project aims to promote and protect the human rights and fundamental freedoms of journalists in Turkey by empowering civil society organizations (CSOs) to improve democratic processes. The discussions addressed ensuring that journalists, particularly those from minority groups or with intersecting identities, can operate in an environment free from discrimination and censorship. The project also emphasizes gender equality ⚧, transparency, and accountability throughout its implementation. The successful kick-off meeting has set a strong foundation for the project’s future activities, which promise to make a meaningful impact on the media landscape and civil society in Turkey. The project is funded by the European Union 🇪🇺 and is a collaborative effort between CRISP - Crisis Simulation for Peace e.V. and its consortium partners: Basın Konseyi (Press Council), Tüm İletişim ve Medya Federasyonu (TIMEF), and Politik Araştırmalar Derneği (PAD). #CombattingCensorship #MediaFreedom #HumanRights #DemocracyInTurkey #CSO #CRISP #EuropeanUnion #JournalistRights #GenderEquality #CivilSociety #FreedomOfPress #KickOffMeeting

CRISP developes projects and facilitates trainings dealing with conflict transformation and civic education. We contribute to peaceful conflict resolution with our work in post-war areas. That is why we support critical democratic forces, which initiate, support and encourage a peaceful conflict transformation in society. In this process, our guiding principle is to adjust our projects to local needs. Our activities are targeting mainly young civil society activists interested in experience-based learning. With the use of simulation games enriched by role-play elements CRISP aims for a self-organizing, holistic, and highly hands-on learning culture.

🌟 Building on the successes of last year’s initiative, the project "Advancing Media Literacy in a Wider Community" is designed to empower local communities in Armenia 🇦🇲 with essential media literacy skills to effectively counter disinformation. This will be achieved through an interactive "training of trainers" program 🎓, targeting NGO workers, journalists, and educators. These trained multipliers will then pass on their knowledge to a broader audience across regional centers in Armenia, with a special focus on vulnerable groups, including women in rural areas 👩🌾 and refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh. By equipping these communities with critical media literacy tools, the initiative aims to cultivate a more informed and resilient society. A unique aspect of the project is the development of a card game, a creative educational tool that builds upon last year’s successful simulation game. The previous project simulated the disinformation ecosystem in Armenia, providing participants with hands-on experience in identifying and countering disinformation 🔍. The new card game will serve as a valuable resource in furthering these efforts, making media literacy education both engaging and accessible. In addition to the local activities, the project will include a study trip to Berlin ✈️, where selected participants will have the opportunity to explore media literacy strategies in a different context. This trip is expected to strengthen collaboration between Armenian and German institutions 🤝, fostering a transnational exchange of knowledge and best practices. Supported by the ÖPR funding program and the Federal Foreign Office of Germany 🇩🇪, this initiative is a collaborative effort between CRISP - Crisis Simulation for Peace e.V. in Berlin and the Centre for Policy Studies NGO (CPS) in Yerevan. #MediaLiteracy #Disinformation #Empowerment #Armenia #NGO #Journalism #Education #CriticalThinking #WomenEmpowerment #NagornoKarabakh #Germany #CPS #CRISP #PeaceBuilding

Zsófia, originally from Hungary 🇭🇺, moved to Germany to pursue a degree in politics. Growing up in a post-socialist country that has yet to fully reconcile with its past, she witnessed firsthand the challenges of incomplete conflict transitions ⚖️, which motivated her to develop a nuanced skill set aimed at deeply understanding these issues and crafting informed proposals. During her studies in Governance at the University of Freiburg, she specialized in post-conflict societies and gender-based violence, merging perspectives from international relations, international law, and security studies. In recent years, Zsófia has worked as a teaching assistant in an International Relations course, where she developed a strong interest in security approaches focused on Feminist Foreign Policy and non-violent conflict transformation. This interest led her to Berlin, where she discovered CRISP’s work, which aligns closely with her career motivations. She sees her time at CRISP as a valuable opportunity to contribute to international peacebuilding efforts 🕊️ and refine her skills in conflict mediation and reconciliation, particularly concerning MENA-EU relations 🌍. She is committed to incorporating critical lenses into her future work, believing that prioritizing human needs and addressing structural inequalities are essential for creating inclusive peace and shaping more just and resilient security policies 💪 #WelcomeZsofia #Peacebuilding #FeministForeignPolicy #ConflictMediation #InternationalRelations #CRISP #InclusivePeace #MENA #SecurityStudies #HumanRights

Today the MENA region is witnessing one of the bloodiest chapters in its recent history. We express our profound concern and solidarity with the people of Sudan, Palestine and Lebanon amidst the unimaginable violence inflicted upon them. Our thoughts go to every displaced family, every civilian life lost and every child forced to endure the horrors of war before experiencing life. In these challenging times, we reaffirm our commitment to continuously advocate for the right to a peaceful and dignified life everywhere. #CeasefireNow

In addition to her academic path, Kate has also gained practical experience in Kyiv, Geneva, and Berlin, equipping her with the skills to navigate complex political environments. It was incredibly important to join the ProjektFlügel initiative, aimed at enhancing the capacity of the Ukrainian community in Germany to counter disinformation. Through this project, we gained in-depth knowledge about the prevalence of disinformation myths, the work of bot farms, and the significance of unified efforts in safeguarding democratic values. Participants deepened their project management skills, particularly in setting goals, evaluating outcomes, and designing projects focused on maximum efficiency. Special attention was given to uniting democratic forces to achieve positive change. These were truly remarkable days of training, and I am deeply grateful to all the participants for their engagement and dedication. I would also like to express my gratitude to Nataliya Pryhornytska, Kateryna Pavlova, Open Platform Berlin, and CRISP for their excellent organization, support, and collaboration! Sincere thanks as well to Berliner Landeszentrale für politische Bildung for supporting this project. #disinformation #diaspora #factCheck

From mid-July until the beginning of August, Sudan has successfully conducted an online implementation of the National Climate Crisis Scenario Planning within our Action for Regional Climate Help (ARCH) project! 🌍 The National Crisis Scenario workshop was designed to bring together a variety of stakeholders to engage in sessions discussing pertinent climate challenges in the areas of food security, water and agriculture nexus, forest conservation and services, as well as green economics and climate finance 🌱 The workshop had numerous objectives, with one of the main ones being to provide a platform for participants to discuss and exchange the potential impacts of climate change in Sudan and to seek expert advice on the matter. Participants received insights into various factors affecting the climate in Sudan in their local regions, enabling them to hypothesize best and worst-case scenarios based on different challenges. #ClimateChange #Sustainability #Sudan #ARCHProject #ClimateCrisis #FoodSecurity #GreenEconomics #ForestConservation #WaterManagement
