Info

    Innovation from biomass

Reflecting on My First Year at CropEnergies AG As I look back on my first year at CropEnergies AG within the Südzucker Group, I am filled with gratitude and pride. The onboarding process was exceptional, providing me with the internal network and knowledge I needed to hit the ground running. The collegial support and camaraderie among my colleagues have been truly inspiring, making every challenge an opportunity for growth . Throughout this year, I have taken on new responsibilities that have pushed me to expand my skills and knowledge. First and most important here: Our 120 mio EUR investment in a 50 kt full bio-based ethyl acetate plant in Elsteraue/ Germany. This and other challenges have been met with unwavering trust and support from my team and the board, allowing me to embrace ownership and strive for excellence in delivering results and leadership execution. I am excited to continue this journey, not only contributing to but taking accountability for our shared goals, and upholding our company values. Here's to many more successful years ahead!

  • The location in #Zeitz attaches great importance to training young #talents and currently offers five different #apprenticeships. There are currently 38 trainees at the site in Zeitz (Sugar factory, Wheat starch factory and CropEnergies Bioethanol GmbH). Various measures have been taken to attract more trainees: ➡️ Co-operation agreements: Cooperation with secondary and technical schools for internships ➡️Presence in schools and at events: Regular information for pupils about training opportunities ➡️YouTube videos and social media activities ➡️Participation in career training days: Events such as Girl's Day ➡️Regular adverts in local media (press and magazines) 🚌 There is even a bus, printed with adverts for #Südzucker apprenticeships and the specially designed Factoy logo. Our trainees have already demonstrated their skills and knowledge in the past in an exciting competition organised by the German Staff assciation for Raw Materials and Chemical Industry. The Germany-wide competition includes a web-based question-and-answer game, in which our trainees made it into the top 30 last time. The motto of the competition is ‘Safety right from the start’ and impressively demonstrates the importance of (occupational) #safety in everyday life, #teamwork and specialist knowledge in training. Zeitz is also represented in the current 2024/25 competition with 12 trainees. We wish you lots of success! 💪

  • Premiere! – First International HR Team Meeting of CropEnergies It’s done! We have started our joint CE HR team journey with HR colleagues from Germany, Belgium, England, and France. During a two-day virtual meeting, the HR strategy was presented, KPIs were discussed, and an open exchange about the prioritization of various locations and the goals to be achieved took place. In addition, we took the opportunity to get to know each other better personally, which worked well despite the virtual format and ensured a consistently pleasant working atmosphere. A highlight was our second international (virtual) HR meeting. Together, we defined our key topics for 2025 and established cross-country working groups to address these topics. This open and productive collaboration is an important step in successfully implementing our global CE strategy, learning from each other, and optimally utilizing synergies. To further strengthen the exchange and good cooperation across borders, there will be regular monthly meetings in the future. These will not only enable continuous knowledge and experience exchange but also promote a common understanding and aligned priorities. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making our vision of a cross-border and well-networked HR team a reality! We look forward to continuing this journey together with new projects this year! #HR #Teamspirit #collaboration #international

  • Did you know? 💡 "Ethanol, also known as ethyl alcohol or alcohol, is a volatile, flammable, colourless liquid with the molecular formula C2H5OH. #Ethanol is also commonly referred to as neutral alcohol or neutral spirit in certain countries. ‘#Renewable ethanol’ is produced from agricultural raw materials, such as cereals and sugar beet, as well as from waste and residues such as straw; ‘synthetic ethanol’ is produced as a derivative from ethylene production using fossil-based raw materials." What is ethanol used for? The #EU ethanol market can be broadly split into three segments: ➡️ Fuel ➡️ Potable ➡️ Industrial In the next series, CropEnergies will provide you with information around our main product renewable ethanol. Enjoy reading! 💡 🙂

The development of new business fields also means "identifying, building and developing skills". In the team (Business Development, Operations and Sales Biobased Chemicals) we thought about - What does it take to be successful? 🙌 Of course professional expertise, Know-How and experience! But we have additionally identified a number of soft skills like personal initiative, goal orientation, analytical skills, resilience, flexibility, openness, willingness to learn, ability to work in a team, willingness to compromise, ... It gives us a good feeling that our findings are in line with the recently published "Future of Jobs Report 2025" by the World Economic Forum, in which the CORE SKILLS are: 1️⃣ Analytical Thinking 2️⃣ Resilience, flexibility and agility 3️⃣ Leadership and social influence 4️⃣ Creative thinking 5️⃣ Motivation and self-awareness Good job Adam, Benjamin, Marco and Jens 💪🏼 🚀 Thank you for the varied ideas and inspiring exchange! ☺️ #creativity #collaboration #responsibility #appreciation

Starting 2025 with an introduction to our new field of #biobased chemicals A little journey – understanding #renewable carbon 💡 One advantage of #biomass is that it is constantly renewed and regrown, unlike crude oil or natural gas, which has formed over millions of years and is stored in the earth's interior where it is difficult to access. 💡 Fossil raw materials are no longer available once they have been utilised and are therefore finite. Besides those facts we must acknowledge, that the #EU Commission has expressed an ambitious pathway to reduce the future output of fossil carbons significantly via the “Green Deal”. 💡 As stated in the following scenario waiving fossil carbons in the future forces the usage of alternatives. The alternatives are clear, and thus, in addition to the multiple use of carbon molecules through recycling and the increasing use of #CO2 as a carbon source, biomass will play an important role in the future to meet the demand for carbon for material and chemical use.

Starting 2025 with an introduction to our new field of #biobased #chemicals A little journey - The Carbon cycle In the context of our post by describing the importance of #CO2, our focus is on defossilisation (reducing the use of fossil fuels), not decarbonisation (reducing the use of carbon). ➡️ This is because #carbon generally comes from fossil sources such as crude oil, natural gas or coal. Consequently, the aim must be to extract carbon from non-fossil, i.e. renewable, sources and make it available to the chemical industry. ➡️ And this is where we come into play because we utilise the advantages of #biomass (e.g. plants or organic waste). What makes biomass so fascinating and useful at the same time is the fact that during its life, the plant continuously absorbs CO2 through photosynthesis, converts it into biomass and releases oxygen in the process. A completely natural and vital process. ➡️ The biogenic carbon is extracted and the use of fossil raw materials can be dispensed with, at least at this point. #Fossil carbon remains in the soil and is not pumped into the atmosphere. We only utilise the carbon atoms that are already present in the atmosphere and have since been converted into biomass. This creates a natural carbon cycle.
