Your partner in understanding interfaces - measuring equipment for surface and interfacial phenomena

Info

DataPhysics Instruments GmbH is a German company from the Stuttgart region. It has been developing, manufacturing, and distributing laboratory measuring devices for the characterisation of interfaces and surfaces for over 25 years. With 45 employees, and a worldwide distribution network, the company is one of the leading manufacturers of analytical, high-precision systems in this field. In short, the laboratory measuring devices from DataPhysics Instruments are used whenever a liquid meets another liquid or a solid. More precisely, the devices can be used to determine important physical and chemical parameters such as surface tension and surface energy, force of adhesion, static and dynamic contact angles, roughness, zeta potential, and destabilisation mechanisms. The product portfolio includes: - contact angle meters of the OCA series - optical measuring systems for determining many parameters of interfaces and surfaces, such as surface tension and energy, interfacial tension, as well as static and dynamic contact angles. - tensiometers of the DCAT series - force-based instruments for investigating a number of interface and surface parameters, such as surface tension and energy, interfacial tension, dynamic contact angle, as well as critical micelle formation concentration and force of adhesion. - SVT 25 spinning drop tensiometer - for characterising extremely low interfacial tensions between two liquids and interfacial rheology. - MultiScan MS 20 dispersion stability analysis system - for investigating the stability of multiphase mixtures such as emulsions and suspensions, regarding their long-term storage stability and their destabilisation mechanisms. - ZPA 20 zeta potential analyzer - with patented measuring method for the precise determination of the zeta potential, of plate-shaped solids, membranes, fibre bundles, and powders. - humidity generators of the HGC series - for the control and adjustment of relative humidity in small measuring chambers

  • 📖The recent journal article ‘Plasma-assisted surface engineering for value added in starch bioplastics: A study on enhanced surface properties and natural dye’ by Bidhari Pidhatika et al. analyzes how starch-based bioplastics can be colored using natural dyes. Thus, this study aims to support the search for sustainable alternatives to petroleum-based plastics. 🎨This study demonstrates how plasma treatments and an additional binder can enhance stable coloration with natural dyes on starch bioplastic surfaces. Specifically, the researchers examined at two natural dyes – telang and curcumin – and their performance on bioplastics made from cassava. They found that curcumin adhered well to the bioplastic surface, even without plasma treatment and additional binder. Telang, on the other hand, required plasma treatment and an additional binder to adhere strongly to the surface. 🔬 In this paper, the ZPA 20 Zeta Potential Analyzer from DataPhysics Instruments was used to obtain important data on the surface charge of the samples. 💡Learn more about the ZPA 20 Zeta Potential Analyzer at: https://lnkd.in/g7n94NS8 📚Read the article ‘Plasma-assisted surface engineering for value added in starch bioplastics: A study on enhanced surface properties and natural dye immobilization’ here: https://lnkd.in/eXPUb9Nt Image: stock.adobe.com/Classic

  • 🌹Rose Petal Effect – Thanks to the unique microstructure of the rose petals, the water droplets stick to the surface without spreading, creating high contact angles. 🧥This natural effect extends far beyond roses. Understanding this offers valuable insights for innovation in areas like waterproof materials and coatings. To precisely measure these hydrophobic properties and surface interactions, the Optical Contact Angle Goniometer can be used, providing accurate data for research and development. 🤓 For more application examples of our product portfolio for surface science applications, visit our website: https://lnkd.in/gUcDp8S

♻️Plastics are a staple of our modern times and used in countless products. In the original state, however, plastics are chemically inert, making further surface modifications difficult. Therefore, it is essential to understand how surface treatments can enhance their performance and durability. 📄In this application note, the effects of polymer treatments on four different plastic substrates were analyzed using a Contact Angle Meter of the OCA series from DataPhysics Instruments. Using contact angle measurements of three test liquids, the surface energy including its polar and dispersive parts could be calculated. These values allow for a quantitative comparison of different plastic substrates before and after surface treatment. 💡Read this free application note to find out more! https://lnkd.in/eHgCNZ2Y
