Our annual business simulation for apprentices was once again a huge success! Over two days, our trainees from all three years had the opportunity to dive deep into real-world business scenarios. DVT Annual Conference 2024 in Berlin very well attended with well over 300 participants. In his welcoming address, President Cord Schiplage outlined the current challenges facing the compound feed industry. In addition to legal uncertainties for market participants, it is precisely the major challenges posed by the EUDR for manufacturers in Germany from next year. Prof. Dr. Peter Kenning, market researcher from the University of Düsseldorf, addressed the success factors in the marketing of sustainable food under the heading “Sustainability in agriculture - does morality end at the shelf?”. FEFAC President Pedro Cordero presented strategic starting points for a successful and competitive feed industry and animal husbandry in Europe. He also referred to the major challenges arising from the EUDR and the database, which is still not fully functional, and called on the legislators in Brussels to communicate a realistic implementation plan and postpone the start of the regulation until mid-2025. In further short statements, Dr. Monika Lahrssen-Wiederholt from the BMEL, Brent Babb from the USSEC, Tobias Fier from the German Meat Industry Association, Lars Ruschmeyer from the German Federation of Young Farmers and Dagmar Klingelhöller, a farmer from Schleswig-Holstein, gave their individual views on the future of German agriculture. Moderated by the two DVT managing directors Dr. Hermann-Josef Baaken and Dr. Michael Lüke, the conference was concluded by a panel discussion with all the speakers.
