Last week, I had the unique opportunity to participate virtually in the 5th edition of DigiHealthDay 2024, hosted by the Deggendorf Institute of Technology. This two-day global forum focused on how digital technologies are transforming healthcare systems worldwide. As the European Health Data Space (EHDS) - which aims to support the secondary use of health data across the EU, including for purposes such as AI development - is currently being implemented, I had the privilege of gaining valuable insights from an expert panel featuring Mr. Dmitry Etin and Ms. Eva Sabajova. The session highlighted both the opportunities and challenges of ensuring that AI is effective in healthcare, emphasizing the need for access to high-quality, diverse, and comprehensive health data - one of the key objectives the EHDS strives to achieve. Moreover, I had the honor of discussing this topic with fellow attendees during online session. One key point I emphasized was the importance of clarifying who is ultimately responsible for health outcomes - AI or healthcare professionals. I believe that AI should act as a coworker to doctors, assisting them in routine clinical work. However, the final decision should always rest with healthcare professionals, who bear responsibility for patient outcomes and the signing of medical documentation. I am excited about the opportunity to deepen my understanding of digital health.
