The Roche pRED center includes two vertical laboratory buildings — 16 and 26 storeys tall with labs from bottom to top — designed with a focus on maximum flexibility and streamlined communication. Laboratory functions are integrated into a 3.4m x 3.4m module that is the basis for lab floor layouts. The module allows for the layout to be easily changed, covering current and future needs. Last week, the digitales bauen GmbH - Part of Drees & Sommer team met up for a guided canoe tour on „Altrhein“ (Rhine river backwater) near Karlsruhe. Before the tour, we were given a briefing on paddling techniques and nature conservation. We then took to the cool water in 3-seater boats. One of the highlights of the tour was combining the canoes into catamarans for a trip on the Rhine river. At the end of the tour, one or two nautical provocations meant that not everyone reached the shore with dry feet 😅 . However, peace was restored by the final meal. digitales bauen GmbH - Part of Drees & Sommer has developed 2 AI applications for the 🏗 construction industry together with KSRI @KIT: 01 Classification of construction site images 02 Symbol recognition on construction plans The applications were developed as part of the Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz-funded research project SDaC - Smart Design and Construction. 🖼 Classification of construction site images Construction sites are regularly documented with images. These images lack useful meta information such as location or content information. Automated classification by AI simplifies the inspection and documentation of the construction site. AI classifies construction site images with an average probability of 65%. Increase to 95% through continuous training of the AI. In our application, the classified images can be filtered and transferred to construction management. Symbol recognition on construction plans Symbols on analog plans of existing buildings are usually counted manually, which is very time-consuming and expensive. 🧠 A trained AI can recognize symbols on plans with an average probability of 90%, through continuous training of the AI with a probability of up to 99%. 🚀 With our application, digital models can be quickly created from analog plans of many existing buildings. The automatic counting of symbols simplifies the preparation of quotations. In addition to the first two AI applications, we are working on further AI applications: - Detail HVAC fixtures based on pattern recognition - Floor plan generation based on room relationships in the room book - Digital model creation based on analog plans 💬 If you are interested or have any questions about our AI applications for the construction industry, please contact our AI expert Georg Müller.
