We aim to develop Additive Manufacturing as an robust industrial established production process.

Info

Additive manufacturing technologies provide great benefits to their users – especially if the technology is used in terms of direct manufacturing for end-use part production purposes. Consequently, the interest in additive manufacturing has been increasing in the fields of science, industry and education. In this context, the Direct Manufacturing Research Center (DMRC) performs research in additive manufacturing with the aim to enable and improve its usage in terms of direct manufacturing. Thereby, the results support the industry and also adapt educational measures. The DMRC is an institution in the faculty of mechanical engineering at the University of Paderborn. Its structure is flexible and very interdisciplinary; depending on the currently handled research topics, the constellation of chairs participating in the DMRC can be changed. At time, within the DMRC 9 different chairs with 11 professors and a large number of researchers work together. The DMRC’s projects are (co-)funded by the State Government of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), by the industrial partners and by public sources. Additionally, all projects are guided and controlled by industry partners. This allows all partners to generate a large amount of output, especially in regard to science.

📣 VDMA Additive Manufacturing has a joint booth in hall 12.0 stand B01 Formnext - Where ideas take shape. Direct Manufacturing Research Center (DMRC) - Paderborn University will showcase at stand B01B. There, visitors can meet Hans-Joachim Schmid, the research assistants, and Ivo Kletetzka and talk about current research topics in the field of #additivemanufacturing. A particular focus of the DMRC research is the development, production and processing of new materials in the technologies LS, SLM and FFF. For example, they are researching new filled or flame-retardant laser sintering powders, conductive FFF filaments and multi-material printing using the SLM process. They are able to produce and process materials for these technologies in-house. They have recently added a large-format granulate printer to their range of equipment and are also researching process optimization and new materials for this technology. Another field of research at the DMRC is the design of AM components in order to fully exploit the advantages of the technology. From basic research to application-oriented research projects and services, the Direct Manufacturing Research Center (DMRC) - Paderborn University has covered the entire spectrum since it was founded in 2009. At the DMRC stand you can find numerous components that have been developed in research projects, including a 3D-printed electric motor and the UPB racing team's racing car, on which numerous components were additively manufactured.

  • The DMRC - Academic is proud to report that our employee Ivo Kletetzka has been awarded the Faculty Best Paper Award.🎉 The award is given by an annually changing jury and honors the best paper of the last year by a scientist of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Paderborn.    The award went to the paper “Influence of the filler-matrix adhesion and the effects of conditioning on tensile properties of laser-sintered parts built with polyamide-glass bead dry blends”, which was written in cooperation with Prof. Grundmeier's “Technical and Macromolecular Chemistry” working group.   This award underlines the importance of interdisciplinary cooperation. It shows how valuable a research institution is in which scientists from different disciplines work together to consider topics holistically.   Link to the paper: https://lnkd.in/etM2GY2c   Congratulations to Ivo Kletetzka and everyone involved!   #Research #Interdisciplinary #Collaboration #Award #Innovation #Science
