Dr. E. Horn introduces new Cylinder Liner Diameter Measurement System CLDM to the market   ---What is the task? Liner wear is an important parameter in assessing the condition of a two-stroke engine. This wear must be determined according to the engine maintenance manual. Currently the diameter is measured manually at defined heights in two directions: “Forward - Aft” and “Port - Starboard”. From this data relevant wear values are calculated.   ---What is the problem? These measurements are currently carried out manually using an inside micrometer, which means a great deal of work and possibly inaccurate results. In addition, the cylinder cover of the engine must be removed. Alternatively, ship owners can hire external service agencies to take on this costly task.   ---The better solution: With the newly developed CLDM system from Dr. E. Horn, the crew can measure liner wear themselves. At any time, independently of the shore service and without removing the cylinder head. Cost advantage: The Horn CLDM pays for itself in less than 18 months, as shore service is no longer necessary.   The CLDM system consists of five components: 1. High-resolution distance sensors for contactless liner diameter measurement 2. Operator device, communicating with the CLDM via infrared 3. Draw-wire encoder to record the height position of the CLDM inside the liner 4. Calibration tool and case packaging 5. Free evaluation software   Curious about this new technology? NEW TURNING MACHINE ARRIVED   With the investment in a new KD 400 turning machine from the manufacturer DMT Drehmaschinen GmbH in Lörrach, Dr. Horn continues to focus consistently on state-of-the-art production technology, high vertical integration and the greatest possible flexibility for our customers. A key component of our corporate strategy is to supply our customers with individual, spare or sample parts at short notice - true to our motto “We keep your system running”. The new turning machine makes a significant contribution to this. It can be used to carry out turning work conventionally, but also by means of cycle programming. State-of-the-art technology using decentralized drive technology and simple operation ensures even higher quality and accuracy for small series and spare parts. Greater efficiency and better planning of individual orders further improve the service for our customers.
