CALL FOR EXPERTS! The EHEDG Packaging Machines Working Group has recently published Part 1 "General considerations for the hygienic design evaluation of packaging machines for solid foodstuffs (including powdered foodstuffs)" of EHEDG Doc. 29 Hygienic Design of Packaging Systems for Solid Foodstuffs. Part 1 aims to enhance communication between manufacturers and users during hygienic design risk assessments and can be utilized during machine sourcing or new machine development according to specified hygiene requirements. Doc. 29 is designed as a multipart guideline, and Part 1 will be complemented by additional parts (2-13) addressing machine-type-specific considerations for various packaging machines, such as thermoforming machinery, tray sealers, vertical and horizontal FFS machines, wrapping machines, and more. Consequently, the Packaging Machines Working Group have issued a “Call for Experts” to draft: Part 5: Flow-Wrappers (priority) Part 3: Tray-Sealers Part 12: Up- and downstream auxiliary equipment for integration in packaging lines – integration in open process areas only If you or a team member would like to join any of these Working Group sub-groups, please reach out to Peter Golz (Peter.Golz@vodafone.de), Chair of the Packaging Machines Working Group and Vanessa Amani (vanessa.amani@ehedg.org), the Portfolio Manager at EHEDG HO, or to office@ehedg.org.

Info
Founded in 1989, the European Hygienic Engineering & Design Group (EHEDG) comprises a group of equipment manufacturers, research institutes, academic bodies and companies which manufacture food or equipment for the production of food, pharmaceuticals/healthcare and/or cosmetics. These organisations work collaboratively to improve hygienic engineering and design standards in all aspects of food manufacture and drive the adoption of best practice. EHEDG UK & IE actively supports the food industry by working collaboratively with organisations and academia to improve hygienic engineering and design standards, disseminating knowledge and best practice guidance via the EHEDG Yearbook, EHEDG Technical Guidelines, training session and seminars, and helping to facilitate the inclusion of hygienic design and engineering in further and higher education courses. We are particularly keen to support smaller companies which may lack internal resources or engineering expertise. We also want to work with and learn from organisations as we strive to deliver improvements in industry standards. For more information and a full list of contacts for EHEDG UK&IE, visit our website.
