Vanadium is crucial to Europe’s green transition and industrial future and is recognised by the EU as one of its 34 critical raw materials. It plays a key role in strengthening steel for construction, powering Vanadium Flow Batteries for renewable energy storage, and driving innovation in aerospace and emerging technologies. But Europe relies heavily on imports to meet demand. That’s why we’re proud to support Novana, a groundbreaking project revolutionising how vanadium is produced. By repurposing steel slag from industry leaders like SSAB and Salzgitter AG, Novana creates carbon-neutral, high-purity vanadium pentoxide while capturing CO2 in the process. This innovative approach will help secure a sustainable vanadium supply for Europe while potentially reducing up to 1.5 million tonnes of CO2 emissions over the next decade.
