U212 NFS Programme Director OCCAR-EA visit ELAC SONAR in Kiel   On 19 September 2024, the OCCAR-EA Director, Joachim SUCKER also accompanied by Admiral Maurizio Cannarozzo, OCCAR-EA U212 NFS Programme Manager, visited ELAC SONAR, a member of the Cohort plc Group.  He was welcomed by Bernd Szukay, ELAC’s Managing Director. The visit followed two intensive and fruitful meetings, held at ELAC SONAR premises and involving separately OCCAR NFS Programme Division and Italian Navy Representatives.  During the visit, the Managing Director illustrated the activities of the Cohort plc Group with a particular focus on the involvement of ELAC SONAR in the Italian Near Future Submarine project. In particular, Bernd Szukay updated Mr Sucker on the innovation and competitive benefits the customers will gain from the participation of a medium sized technology companies, like ELAC SONAR. In fact, ELAC will supply the innovative and performant Integrated Sonar Suite for the U212 Near Future Submarines (NFS), in the framework of the contract awarded to the Italian shipbuilding group FINCANTIERI and managed by OCCAR. The Director appreciated the presentation and had the opportunity to see first-hand the current state of development and production for the NFS Programme, underlining the contribution of medium size industry in strategic and innovative shipbuilding programms.

Located in Kiel-Holtenau, this state-of-the-art facility marks a pivotal moment with the completion of its ground foundation. ELAC SONAR’s Managing Directors, Mr. Bernd Szukay and Mr. Ole S. commemorated this achievement by placing a time capsule filled with memorabilia into the foundation, symbolizing the company's rich heritage and promising future. Last Friday, 28 June 2024, the incoming German military attachés, accompanied by members of the BDSV (Bundesverband der Deutschen Sicherheits- und Verteidigungsindustrie e.V. or Federation of German Security and Defence Industries e.V. ), visited us at our headquarters in Kiel. The #Philippines is embarking on a 'Re-Horizon 3' military modernisation initiative, the final stage of a three-phase modernization initiative that started in 2013. In early March 2024, the Philippine government announced its latest defence modernisation effort, which shifted its procurement strategy towards a more proactive approach to acquiring new and second-hand vessels. With defence spending expected to rise to $6.2 billion by 2029, the Philippines is looking to boost its maritime and air defence capabilities to navigate regional complexities and protect its interests, according to Global Data. Aligning to this military modernization, ELAC SONAR, together with our partner Hanwha Group, has successfully upgraded the three Del Pillar Class OPVs/Frigates with #ELACSonar Hunter 2.0 Hull Mounted Sonar (HMS). HUNTER 2.0 is a mid-frequency hull-mounted sonar providing active and passive surveillance, analysis and classification capabilities. The processing software uses an open architecture based DDS, which allows the addition of third party applications and hosting on alternative common processing platforms. Our hull-mounterd carries out anti-submarine warfare (ASW) in active and passive modes in shallow and deep waters for panoramic detection of submarines and other objects.
