Dubai Chocolate - the latest craze in the chocolate world has taken the internet by storm! The famous chocolate has a filling made from roasted kadayif, pistachio cream, and tahini (a sesame paste). These delicious ingredients are covered in milk chocolate, creating the bar of chocolate everyone wants to get their hands on. 😋 But did you know that we're helping make Dubai Chocolate #ethical and #sustainable? The original recipe for Dubai Chocolate includes milk chocolate from the Swiss company Max Felchlin AG - specifically Maracaibo chocolate from Venezuela! As many of you know, we have been partnering with Felchlin for years: creating and implementing health programs for the #cocoa farmers behind their chocolate. 🍫 So next time you're craving this trendy treat, you can enjoy it knowing that Max Felchlin AG is putting in the extra work needed to make sure not only consumers benefit from their products, but their farmers do, too! If your stomach is rumbling now after reading this post, you can check out a recipe for making your own Dubai chocolate at home below, by Felchlin! 👩🏻🍳

Yesterday we wrapped up what's happened for us in coffee in 2024 - now let's take a look at #cocoa! In 2024, cocoa prices surged by over 100%, yet this increase has not eased the challenges faced by farmers. Economic instability remains a significant burden, with rising production costs and stagnant incomes creating severe financial strain. At the same time, climate change is intensifying health risks such as malaria and other climate-sensitive illnesses, further affecting farmers' livelihoods and productivity. This year, we have taken deliberate steps to address these complex and interrelated challenges: ✨ Collaborating with Tony's Chocolonely and the Chocolonely Foundation, as well as other leading companies to demonstrate how fairer incomes and access to #healthcare can drive sustainability. ✨ Advocating for the critical role of health in enhancing productivity and farmer retention at key forums, including the World Cocoa Foundation and Chocoa. ✨ Leveraging actionable data insights in Ghana to inform strategies that strengthen resilience and #sustainability. See results here: https://lnkd.in/eEipFc6q ✨ Expanding our health programs into Côte d’Ivoire, the world’s largest cocoa-producing country, to extend our impact to even more cocoa farming communities. The takeaway? Health isn’t just a human right - it’s the backbone of a strong and resilient cocoa supply chain. And when farmers thrive, we all do.

"If coffee farmers don't keep growing coffee because it's not a viable business for them and they don't have access to essential services, there will be no coffee." This was a quote from one of the participants at the launch of the Swiss Sustainable Coffee Platform (SSCP), which I recently had the pleasure of representing Elucid at. This quote places sustainability at the heart of the industry and nicely summarizes what the SSCP has set out to do: With support from 60+ members across the coffee industry, public sector, and academia, the SSCP is committed to building a more sustainable coffee value chain. At the event, the SSCP launched their ambitious 2025 roadmap, including project funding opportunities to be published in Q1 2025! In a World Café session masterfully led by Nicoletta Lumaldo, we explored different perspectives on the risks of failing to achieve the 2030 SDG targets for the coffee sector. My top takeaways: ☕ Climate resilience is essential in volatile climate conditions. ☕ Farmer resilience - supported by access to healthcare, education, and financing - keeps coffee farming viable. ☕ Collaboration across the industry is the key ingredient for real change. Failing to act was seen as impacting the lives of 25 million coffee farmers, the coffee sector, and even global security. I left with a book of ideas for collaboration with solution providers and industry leaders from Sucafina, Nestlé Nespresso SA, Nestlé, illycaffè, Louis Dreyfus Company, ALDI SÜD, Kaffeemacher:innen, ViCAFE, Touton SA, and more. Thank you, Swiss Platform for Sustainable Cocoa and Swiss Sustainable Coffee Platform, for this wonderful event. At Elucid, we are excited to help make coffee growing sustainable for farming families through better access to #healthcare - because healthier #farmers means stronger #supplychains.

2024 has been a big year for Elucid, marking the start of our journey in #coffee! Here’s a quick look back at some highlights 💫 1) Jan Lühmann joined our team as our topic lead for coffee, sharing his expertise and adding an extra shot of brilliance to our work. 2) Winning the SCTA Next Gen Sustainability Contest wasn’t just about the trophy - it marked the beginning of scaling our #health program for coffee farmers and their families in Uganda. 3) Joining the Swiss Sustainable Coffee Platform has connected us with others who share our belief that sustainability must go beyond being a buzzword - it should be a lived experience of every farming community. As we wrap up the year, our work is just getting started. We’ve laid the groundwork for several health programs in collaboration with roasters, suppliers, and farmer groups in Uganda, setting the stage for greater impact in 2025. Next year, coffee breaks will do more than refuel - they will help build stronger, healthier farming communities. Let’s keep brewing impact together! ☕

𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗰𝗼𝗮 at the 2025 World Cocoa Foundation 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴! Health is taking center stage at one of the world's biggest cocoa conferences! Why does this matter? Because the health of cocoa farmers is directly tied to the future of the entire supply chain. Think about it: 👉 Healthy farmers mean stronger communities and better cocoa production. 👉 Better cocoa production means a stable, sustainable supply chain. 👉 A sustainable supply chain secures livelihoods and meets global demand. 𝗡𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 #𝗪𝗖𝗙𝗣𝗠 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗮𝗼 𝗣𝗮𝘂𝗹𝗼, during the second day of the conference, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 as key strategies to tackle child labor, improve livelihoods, and secure the future of cocoa farming. For us at Elucid, this is a proud moment. The belief that investing in farmers’ health creates ripple effects far beyond individual well-being has always been central to our work, and the results speak for themselves. Curious about the results? Check out our 60 Decibels report from Ghana for an impact snapshot! 👉 https://lnkd.in/dYQd9XCr 𝗦𝗲𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗮𝗼 𝗣𝗮𝘂𝗹𝗼 👀 😉

🙏   #sozialeverantwortung #lieferketten #sdg1 #keinearmut #sgd3 #gesundheit #wohlergehen

💡 𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄? Despite implementing National Health Insurance (CMU) in 2019, healthcare access in Côte d'Ivoire remains a major challenge. Only around 27% of the population has health coverage, and active membership falls below 5% due to high costs and limited provider acceptance. Out-of-pocket expenses still make up 40% of health spending, creating a heavy financial strain on families. With only one doctor per 10,000 people, Côte d'Ivoire faces severe healthcare shortages. While 81% of hospitals have labs, this drops to just 10% in smaller health centers. For those living more than 5 km from a facility, access is further limited by weak referral systems, underfunding, and shortages of skilled staff, medications, and essential utilities. And the burden of disease is high: • 𝗙𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗲: 69 deaths per 1,000 live births • 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼: 385 deaths per 100,000 live births • 𝗩𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲: Low immunization rates, leaving many children Comparing this to Germany’s under-five mortality rate of 3.6 per 1,000 and maternal mortality of 4 per 100,000 highlights a stark disparity, underscoring the urgent need for healthcare improvements in Côte d'Ivoire. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 Improving healthcare access can break the cycle of poverty, especially for the 40% of the population living below the international poverty line. This is why we’re expanding operations to Côte d'Ivoire, starting with projects in the #cotton, #nut, and #cocoa #supplychain. Want the farmers you work with to have access to healthcare for a stronger supply chain? Reach out to us! Or stay tuned as we work toward a healthier, more resilient future in Côte d'Ivoire.
