It is a key organization, filling in a gap in respect of the coordination of sustainability science teaching and research at European universities seen today. The ESSSR undertakes activities focusing on four main areas: Area 1: digitally-oriented teaching programmes Area 2: research projects in the area of sustainability science Area 3: quality scientific publications to be published in high calibre journals Area 4: joint training of PhD students on sustainability science, as well as post-doctoral positions and fellowships

🎉 We are delighted to have the Sussex Sustainability Research Programme (SSRP) at the University of Sussex join the ESSSR network as a premium member.🎉 For over 60 years, the University of Sussex has pushed intellectual boundaries, from advances in quantum technology to finding innovative new ways to protect our planet. The Sussex Sustainability Research Programme (SSRP) at the University of Sussex is one of 12 centres of research excellence. SSRP is a partnership between the University of Sussex and IDS. It works to catalyse and coordinate sustainability research on campus, in conjunction with international and national partners. Its objective is to provide “Science for the SDGs” by carrying out rigorous interdisciplinary research on critical sustainability topics. SSRP has enabled a thriving community of interdisciplinary sustainability research on campus through our thematic seed funds, fellowships and impact funds. 🌍 Established in 2016, the Sussex Sustainability Research Programme (SSRP) at the University of Sussex has consistently developed and delivered research projects, events, and partnerships to help achieve the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. Currently, SSRP conducts impactful research under the following key themes: -Ecosystems, Rights and Justice -South Coast Sustainability -Planetary Health -Sustainable Climate and Food Systems -Sustainability Frontiers 💡 Activities and Partnerships: SSRP organises regular research events on pressing sustainability issues. Recent events include an interdisciplinary workshop on the potential of artificial intelligence to improve early weather warning systems, focusing particularly on SSRP research in the Horn of Africa and South India. SSRP’s next workshop is about onshore wind energy in the South Coast landscape. The annual SSRP Symposium showcases the programme’s wide-ranging sustainability research. SSRP researchers have forged productive partnerships with various governmental bodies, NGOs and universities at home and further afield. The latest SSRP projects have entailed partnerships with the Sussex Wildlife Trust, the Sussex Inshore Fishers and Conservation Authorities (IFCA), Southern Water, The Rivers Trust, Friends of the River Medway, the Environment Agency, Gadjah Madah University (Indonesia) and Unimontes (the State University of Montes Claros, Brazil). 👉 In addition to the SSRP, there are several other research centres focussing on other aspects of sustainability research at the University of Sussex. European School of Sustainability Science and Research hat dies direkt geteilt
Last week, from 18 to 20 November 2024, IUSDRP directors Amanda Lange Salvia and João Eustachio participated in the International Student Symposium on the SDGs and the Research-in-Progress Workshop, hosted by one of IUSDRP’s esteemed members, University of South Africa/Universiteit van Suid-Afrika. The event was part of the inter-institutional project, “The Digital Introduction of the Sustainable Development Goals into Higher Education Teaching – Regional Aspects in Implementing the SDGs from Brazil and South Africa”. It was organised by the Department of Geography at the University of South Africa/Universiteit van Suid-Afrika in collaboration with project partners from Hamburg University of Applied Sciences and Universidade de Passo Fundo. The symposium provided a platform for undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students to showcase the results of their research projects related to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 📢 Call for Papers for a New Book: Transforming Higher Education for a Sustainable Future 📢 The book "Transforming Higher Education for a Sustainable Future" is being led by a team at the Research and Transfer Center Sustainable Development and Climate Change Management(FTZ-NK) at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, ESSSR European School of Sustainability, Inter-University Sustainable Development Research Programme (IUSDRP), UK Consortium for Sustainability Research (UK-CSR) and European-North American Sustainability Research Consortium (ENASRC). 💡 We invite scholars, educators, and practitioners to contribute to this new, ground-breaking book, focused on innovative approaches and practices in higher education aimed at fostering awareness about and promoting experiences of transformative approaches on sustainability. This volume seeks to explore how higher education institutions can use transformation as a tool via which local, regional and global sustainability challenges may be addressed. 🌍 Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: -Using transformaion to integrate sustainability into curricula and research -Developing transformative approaches for sustainable campus practices -Transformation and community engagement and partnerships for sustainability -Policy frameworks supporting sustainable higher education -Case studies of successful transformative sustainable initiatives at colleges and universities -Interdisciplinary and transformative approaches to sustainability education ✅ Submission Guidelines Please submit a 300-500 word abstract outlining your proposed chapter, including the key arguments and relevance to transformation on sustainability in higher education to the following E-Mail address: info@iccip.net. 🌍 Join us at the World Symposium on Sustainability Leadership (WSSL 2025) in Salamanca, Spain, on 5th-6th June 2025!🌍 The Symposium offers a valuable opportunity to showcase projects, approaches, and activities that investigate or utilise leadership principles and methods as a means of guiding sustainable development in organisations.
