🎉 It’s Out: Our Vision for Europe’s Bioeconomy - The Blueprint in Action! What is Bioeconomy? The Bioeconomy is the sustainable production of renewable resources and their conversion into: 🍎 food, 🏗️ materials, 🧪 chemicals,⚡ energy Why does Bioeconomy matters? ✅ Contributes €2.4 trillion annually to the EU economy ✅ Supports over 17 million jobs across Europe ✅ Can cut CO2 emissions by 2.5 billion tonnes annually by 2030 EUBA’s Bioeconomy Blueprint sets a clear path towards this more sustainable, competitive, and resilient future. To unleash the Bioeconomy’s full potential, we call on policymakers to: ✔️ Appoint an EU-level ‘bio-coordinator’ ✔️ Boost research, innovation, and commercialisation ✔️ Support bio-based products with a competitive regulatory framework ✔️ Make the Bioeconomy an integral part of EU-level frameworks and policies ✔️ Create incentives for bio-based products in strategic sectors ✔️ Ensure sufficient budget for the future CAP and Horizon Europe ✔️ Extend public-private partnerships across the value chain ✔️ Streamline governance within EU Institutions ✔️ Recognise and help quantify Bioeconomy’s climate benefits ✔️ Promote standards to accelerate bi-product commercialisation By embracing the Bioeconomy, we can build a Europe that is: Resource-efficient. Resilient. Climate-neutral. Future-ready. Is biodegradable plastics and material recycling, a paradox? 🤔 ✅ There is no paradox. Material recycling provides a viable additional end-of-life option. #Biodegradable plastic polymers do not affect the recycling or recyclability of other plastic waste streams, as it has been demonstrated that they can be separated. ✅ In order to reach the targets of Europe and of the #PPWR, efficient #sorting is essential for all plastics to have high quality recycling outputs. ✅ Efficient sorting of all plastics can be performed with existing NIR equipment at sorting/recycling facilities as long as the respective spectra libraries for those plastics are used. 🔗 Find out more in our recently published paper https://lnkd.in/eZeAbub3

💡 European Bioplastics supports EuropaBio - the European Association for Bioindustries’s vision for a bold #EUBiotechAct. We believe in the potential of the #bioplastics sector in reducing the environmental impact of plastics and its crucial role in advancing Europe’s goal of sourcing at least 20% of the carbon used in chemicals and plastics from non-fossil sources by 2030. A strong EU Biotech Act will: ✅ Strengthen value chains, from R&D to end-users ✅ Create coherent regulatory pathways, ensuring Europe remains a hub for innovation ✅ Build a next-generation biotech ecosystem The EU Biotech Act should at least address the following 3 pillars: faster financing mechanisms, simpler regulatory and operational frameworks, and strong, connected and skilled value chains. ➡️ Read the full vision paper below or at https://lnkd.in/ebvXUvNe
