A consortium of 16 leading European media art organisations specialised in Digital & Media Art, Bio Art & Robotic Art.

Info

The European Media Art Platform (EMAP), initiated by werkleitz and co-funded by Creative Europe since 2018, is a consortium of 16 leading European media art organisations specialised in Digital and Media Art, Bio Art and Robotic Art. The consortium includes several renowned festivals dealing with these interdisciplinary art forms. In addition to the 16 permanent members of the consortium, an annually changing international residency host organisation is part of the EMAP board. Through an open call, EMAP members offer practitioners two-month residencies, based on intercultural and interdisciplinary knowledge exchange between the selected artists, host organisations and various experts from science, arts and technology involved to consult, support or train the artists. Each member host provides an artist grant, travel expenses, production budget, paid accommodation during the residency and access to labs and facilities. Furthermore, the EMAP residency includes events like solo exhibitions and group shows, on- and offline conferences and capacity building workshops to share knowledge. EMAP also acts as a marketplace for media art partners to select artists and works for their own festivals and exhibitions. The international partner network is constantly growing and currently offers artists the opportunity to present their work to over 100 partners in 40 countries.

  • Don´t miss the EMAP show "Implausible rainbows: an exercise in skyscaping" by Lukas Truniger and Bruce Yoder at Laboral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial. The exhibition recreates atmospheric phenomena like rainbows and halos using precise light sources and optics. Visitors explore the space, observing shifting synthetic rainbows accompanied by a soundscape, which invites reflection on human perception and our relationship with nature.
The installation repurposes climate engineering and weather control techniques for artistic exploration, distancing them from geopolitical motives. It speculates on how phenomena like rainbows might change under future atmospheric conditions, such as in a climate-altered world or with a cooling sun. 🌈 05 December 2024 - 03 May 2025 🌈 LABoral - Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial, Gijón #europeanmediaart #mediaart #residency

  • Take part in our digital EMAP Capacity Building Workshop "Authorship in AI-Generated Art" hosted by M-Cult on 22 October 2024! AI is rapidly transforming the creative landscape. This technological leap challenges traditional notions of authorship, raising questions about the artist’s role in the creation process. The online workshop „Authorship in AI-Generated Art“, aims to explore this complex and emerging issue with our guest speakers introduced below. We now invite artists, scholars, legal experts, and technologists to engage in this discussion on the implications of AI in the world of media art. Key topics of the workshop with pioneering AI artist-philosopher Boris Eldagsen and Austrian artist-researcher duo Kairus (Andreas Zingerle & Linda Kronman) will address the challenges and possibilities of prompt-based visual creation and the ethical considerations of AI in art, including concerns over originality and intellectual property rights. It is time to ask: what do artists really want when it comes to authorship and copyright? What actions and laws should be implemented to safeguard creative integrity? 📌 The workshop is programmed by M-Cult’s producer and EMAP residency coordinator Mia Mäkelä. It takes place on 22 October 2024, 18:00 - 20:00 (CET) online, registration not required. Find out more: https://lnkd.in/e7vU5uvp #europeanmediaart #mediaart #AI

  • Dear colleagues, it was with great disappointment that we were informed that, as from next year, there will no longer be any media/digital-arts focused platform nor network funded through the Creative Europe programme due to lack of resources.  If you want to appeal against it, please support our petition and distribute it: ✏ https://chng.it/nK6f9QXZTV Thank you very much. • ✨ Join us and learn more about some of our EMAP projects at Ars Electronica Festival 2024 in Linz! “HOPE” as the theme of this year´s festival is not a resigned statement that all we can do is hope that someone or something will solve our problems, but rather a manifestation that there are actually many reasons for hope. This is expressed in the subtitle “who will turn the tide”, which does not claim to know how the turnaround can be achieved, but rather focuses on who the driving forces behind this turnabout are. This year there will also be an EMAP Group Show as part of the festival. The participating artists and their projects are as follows: * Dorotea Dolinšek - Biosymbiotic Exoskeleton * masharu - Compost as Superfood * Maria Smigielska and CompMonks - Proteus 4.1 * So Kanno, Akihiro Kato, Takemi Watanuki - Kazokutchi * Nicolas Gourault - Unknown Label * Bethan Hughes - Hevea Act 6: An Elastic Continuum * Marc Vilanova - Cascade 📍 Ars Electronica takes place until 08 September 2024 at Postcity in Linz. ▶ We´re looking forward to meeting a lot of our members, artists and partners at our EMAP Get.together this weekend. • 🍴 Join us at the table : Be My Guest! by the EMAP artists Anna Pompermaier & Cenk Güzeliş (MeandOtherMe) and Valdemar Danry explores the spatial, cultural, and social relationships of #design, #newmedia #technologies and #AI, through one of the most common and oldest gathering rituals in our everyday lives – a communal dinner. The host of this dinner? AI. This way, Be My Guest! allows for discussions on the growing socio-cultural role of AI-models and their integration as a new kind of social species in our everyday scenarios. What happens to the human experience when AI becomes our dinner host, co-creator of the spatial experience and co-author of the menu? Meet the artists on 1 June at IMPAKT.NL at an AI-hosted meal at 14:00 or 19:00 to find out!

  • EMAP supports exhibitions of previous EMAP works at partners from the media art network with the "Partner Presentation Grant“. The wonderful solo exhibition "Hipertèlia" by artist Mónica Rikić Fusté at Drugo More in #Rijeka is also part of this programme - and highly recommended:
"Hipertèlia" is the term used in Catalan to describe the enlargement of an organ to the extent that it no longer fulfills its function. Cognitive technologies have become an overdeveloped organ, generating anxiety and uncertainty about the future. What agency do we have in defining this future? This exhibition suggests possible alternatives for the evolution of artificial intelligences through handmade electronic devices. Among the presented works in this exhibition is Hipèrbole (2023), a project made in collaboration with Gema FB Martín and developed during Mónica Rikić´s EMAP residency at Hexagram in 2023. The exhibition is on display until 31 May 2024 at Filodrammatica Gallery, Korea 21/1, Rijeka.
