The World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) has released a report titled "Towards a Healthier Future for All: Progress in Animal Health to Contain Antimicrobial Resistance," highlighting significant strides in combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR) within the animal health sector. The report emphasizes the critical role of responsible antimicrobial use and the implementation of robust surveillance systems to monitor and mitigate AMR risks. Key achievements include the development of international standards for prudent antimicrobial use in animals and the establishment of the Global Database on Antimicrobial Agents Intended for Use in Animals. This database has facilitated the collection of data from 160 countries, enhancing global understanding of antimicrobial usage patterns. Additionally, WOAH has provided training to over 1,000 professionals worldwide, strengthening national capacities to address AMR challenges effectively. The report also underscores the importance of a One Health approach, integrating efforts across human, animal, and environmental health sectors. By fostering collaboration among these domains, WOAH aims to sustain momentum in the fight against AMR, ensuring the efficacy of antimicrobials for future generations.
