From Roots to Classrooms 🌱 In Uganda’s Kasese District, a community-driven tree nursery is making education more accessible. By purchasing seedlings, Fairventures has helped fund the construction of a new primary school in Rusese, set to open in January 2025. This initiative addresses a critical need for local families, where children often walk long distances to school. The project, powered by local resources and reinvested profits, showcases how reforestation can drive sustainable development beyond its environmental benefits. Distribution of Cocoa Seedlings Begins! 🚜🌱⁠ ⁠ From November 12-24, our Cocoa Team is on the move, distributing cocoa seedlings to smallholder farmers in 7 villages across Katingan Regency, Indonesia.⁠ ⁠ This marks the start of a new chapter for these farmers in their cocoa production journey. After completing our Cocoa Farmer Field School, they are now ready to put their knowledge and skills into action. 🌱💪⁠ ⁠ A big thank you to everyone involved in the distribution process. Urgent Financial Action needed at COP 29!💚 The 29th UN Climate Change Conference (COP 29) will take place in Baku, Azerbaijan, from November 11-22, 2024. In the face of increasing climate-related disasters worldwide, it is crucial to achieve the goal of international climate financing. As a member of VENRO (Verband Entwicklungspolitik und Humanitäre Hilfe) in Germany, Fairventures Worldwide supports the demands of VENRO and Climate Alliance Germany for sustainable financing that ensures climate justice. 🌿 The needs of those affected in the Global South must be strongly considered in the New Collective Quantified Goal on Climate Finance (NCQG) at COP 29. Additionally, the conference must ensure unrestricted participation of civil society and amplify the voices of the most vulnerable. Nilam, also known as Patchouli, is a shrub commonly used as a base for perfumes, incense, and aromatherapy. 🌱🧑🌾 After careful nurturing, our Nilam plants are now ready for harvest! Afterward, we distill the Nilam leaves and analyze the oil to further optimize our cultivation methods. 🌳🌿 Why Agroforestry?🌿🌳 Our agroforestry approach plays a vital role in creating sustainable forests that combine timber and food crops, offering stable incomes for communities while preserving biodiversity and combating climate change. In Uganda, we plant a variety of species, including Grevillea robusta, Albizia coriaria, and Cordia africana, along with Mangifera indica, Prunus africana, and Terminalia superba.🌱 Albizia chinensis for example is a fast-growing exotic tree that provides timber and fuel while enhancing soil fertility and controlling erosion.🌴 Meanwhile, Maesopsis eminii, a native tree, offers windbreak protection and is ideal for sustainable land management due to its coppiced growth. Together for reforestation: Thank you, Deutsche Postcode Lottery! 🌿✨ We are very happy that Deutsche Postcode Lotterie is once again supporting us with reforestation in the tropics! With their generous donation, we can plant 187,500 native tree seedlings in the Jubiya Central Forest Reserve in Uganda and thus promote biodiversity. The Cocoa Farmer Field School in Katingan has been successfully implemented! 🧑🌾✨ Around 120 farmers from 7 villages in Katingan regency, Indonesia, learned about the basic practices of good cocoa cultivation. This activity aims to teach farmers important skills to help them cultivate cocoa more effectively in their area. With the right knowledge, we can achieve better harvests.🌳🍫 The Cocoa Farmer Field School runs for 4 weeks. This activity has 4 modules, with 1 module being learned each week. Each session is packed with knowledge and practical skills that can be applied right away. The farmers get to learn about cocoa planting techniques, seedling production, fertilization, pest and disease control, and grafting methods for shoots and side branches.🌿 We hope that all of this knowledge and practice will help the farmers achieve prosperity. Making an Impact with Farmers! 🙌🌱 We’re excited to share an update from Kalteng Cocoa: we’ve just finished introducing the cocoa project to smallholder farmers in 7 villages across Katingan Regency, Indonesia. 🍫🧑🌾 In each village, 10-15 community members joined the sessions. These meetings helped us not only present the potential of cocoa cultivation but also get a deeper understanding of the farmers’ interests and needs.
