All was so easy going in the seventies ... wonderful memories
How a student of industrial engineering and management found his way into the world of hospitality Remembering 50 Years ago At the beginning of the roaring seventies in Berlin I started together with 2 fellow students from TU Berlin my career as founder of two best places to be – Restaurant Jahrmarkt at Savingyplatz and famous Café Bleibtreu in Bleibtreustrasse. To professionalize these first steps into the World of Hospitality the Café – Restaurant Wintergarten was founded in 1973 offering fine dining & bar, afternoon tea and coffee time and breakfast in the morning. On stage in a separate hall annex to the restaurant recital of poems and chansons were performed by Evelyn Künneke, Bar Trio with Künneke, Helen Vita and Brigitte Mira among many others. In those days it was a fascinating and exciting period to host guests from politics, Show Biz, theatre, cinema and the so-called West-Berlin scene.
