🌍 The United Nations: Our Global Ally in the Fight Against Climate Change 🌍 Imagine the entire world coming together to combat climate change and secure a sustainable future. That’s exactly what the United Nations (UN) aims to achieve through various initiatives and agreements driving global climate action. Key UN Climate Initiatives: - UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC): Established in 1992, this framework lays the foundation for international climate negotiations and agreements. - The Paris Agreement: Adopted in 2015, it strives to limit global warming to well below 2°C and to pursue efforts to keep it under 1.5°C. - Sustainable Development Goal 13 (SDG 13): Part of the UN’s 2030 Agenda, SDG 13 calls for urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts. How the UN Drives Climate Action: - Global Cooperation: The UN brings countries together to create shared strategies and goals for climate protection. - Funding Initiatives: Through the Green Climate Fund, the UN supports developing nations in implementing climate solutions. - Scientific Guidance: Bodies like the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) provide vital research to inform policy decisions. The United Nations plays a pivotal role in uniting nations, mobilising resources, and providing scientific knowledge to address climate change. Their commitment is essential to effectively combat climate change and create a sustainable future for generations to come. 🌎 Discover more about the UN’s climate efforts: https://lnkd.in/ewp-K_Wg #UNClimateAction #GlobalWarming #SustainableDevelopment #ClimateChange #FreezeCarbon #Startup

🥽 Plastic Waste in Our Oceans: A Crisis We Can't Ignore 🌊 Imagine a world where our oceans are suffocating under a blanket of plastic waste, endangering marine life and disrupting entire ecosystems. This isn't a distant dystopia—it's our current reality. 🐢 Plastic pollution has infiltrated every corner of our seas, posing a severe threat to marine biodiversity and, ultimately, to human health. How Does Plastic End Up in the Ocean? - 🏭 Land-Based Sources: Approximately 70% to 80% of ocean plastics originate from land, entering waterways through improper waste disposal, littering, and stormwater run-off. - 🚢 Marine Activities: The remaining 20% to 30% comes from activities like fishing, shipping, and offshore industries, including discarded nets and gear. Impact on Marine Ecosystems - 🐠 Harm to Wildlife: Marine animals often mistake plastic for food, leading to ingestion, starvation, and death. - 🪸 Habitat Destruction: Plastic debris damages coral reefs and other vital habitats, disrupting the balance of marine ecosystems. - 🧪 Chemical Pollution: Plastics leach toxic chemicals into the water, affecting the health of marine organisms and potentially entering the human food chain. What Can We Do? - ♻️ Reduce Plastic Use: Opt for reusable items and avoid single-use plastics whenever possible. - 🗑️ Proper Waste Management: Ensure waste is disposed of correctly and support recycling initiatives. - 🌍 Participate in Clean-ups: Join local beach or river clean-ups to remove existing plastic waste. - 📜 Support Legislation: Advocate for policies that reduce plastic production and improve waste management systems. Addressing plastic pollution requires collective action. 🌎 By making conscious choices and supporting systemic changes, we can protect our #oceans and preserve their beauty and biodiversity for future generations. 💧 The water cycle: How water shapes our climate and environment 💧 Have you ever wondered how water moves from the oceans to the clouds and back again as rain? 🌧️ This continuous cycle, known as the hydrological cycle, is crucial to our planet's climate and environment. As air and water temperature increase, the movement of water through this cycle speeds up significantly. Some results include more and heavier rain falls as well as higher variances in river levels, both more and less water depending on the weather conditions. What is the water cycle? 🌊 The water cycle describes the continuous movement of water between the oceans, the atmosphere and the land. Water is transported in different forms - liquid, solid or gas - through processes such as evaporation, condensation and precipitation. Importance for the climate: 🌡️ Temperature regulation: Water stores and transports heat, helping to stabilise global temperatures. 🌧️ Precipitation patterns: The cycle determines where and when it rains or snows, which is essential for agriculture and water supply. 🌍 Carbon sequestration: Oceans and water bodies absorb carbon dioxide and thus influence the greenhouse effect. Environmental impact: ⛰️ Erosion and landscape shaping: Rivers and rain shape the earth's surface through erosion, creating valleys and ravines. 🐟 Habitat for organisms: Water is a habitat for many plants and animals and forms the basis for diverse ecosystems. The water cycle is a fascinating system that shows how closely water, climate and life on Earth are linked. 💙 Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/eQ4xRSu5 #WaterCycle #ClimateImpact #EnvironmentalScience #Hydrology #FreezeCarbon #Startup

♻️ Zero waste: Can you reduce your everyday waste to zero? Here are tips for living a zero-waste life! ♻️ Did you know that the average person produces hundreds of kilos of waste every year? 🚮 But there is another way! With the Zero Waste movement, people are trying to reduce their waste to a minimum - and some are succeeding. Here are a few simple steps you can take to live more consciously and produce less waste: ♲ Reuse instead of throw away: Choose reusable alternatives such as reusable coffee cups, water bottles and shopping bags. 🍇 Buy loose products: Avoid packaging by buying food in bulk from a shop or at a farmer's market. 🧶 Make instead of buy: Many things are easy to make yourself, whether it's cleaning products, bread or even cosmetics - this saves packaging and often money. 💡 Go for quality: It's better to buy something once that's good quality and lasts, than to keep buying new products that break quickly. With these small, everyday tips, everyone can do their bit to reduce their carbon footprint. 🌍🌱 #ZeroWaste #Sustainability #WasteReduction #EcoLiving #FreezeCarbon #Startup
