Some of you may have already had the pleasure of meeting him during his visit at Nürtingen-Geislingen University (HfWU). As part of the Climate Change Challengers program, built in partnership with Friends of Social Business e.V., we had the privilege of supporting Kemo in enhancing his pitch for his innovative biochar project, which he passionately presented at UN Convention to Combat Desertification COP16Riyadh and at G20 Global Land Initiative last week. His project transforms biowaste into biochar— a sustainable solution that not only combats deforestation but also provides natural fertilizers for agriculture. 🌳 Did you know? In Gambia alone, a staggering 77,000 tons of charcoal are needed each year just to meet household cooking fuel demands, significantly contributing to deforestation. This challenge isn't limited to Gambia; it's a pressing issue affecting communities across the Global South, where many rely on wood fuel for cooking. Globally, deforestation accounts for nearly 10% of greenhouse gas emissions, with fuel consumption by local communities being a major contributor. Kemo is actively seeking investment to scale up his production and meet the increasing demand in The Gambia. 🔗 Want to make a difference? We dove deep into impact funding, exploring options that early-stage social business founders can explore, from crowdfunding and grants to impact investors and impact VCs. 🧑🤝🧑 🙌 Special thanks to Jan Schierle, CFO of the World Fund, for sharing his invaluable insights from one of the leading european multi-stage climate-tech VC funds!
