🌍♻️ Strengthening Partnerships and Exploring Opportunities in Bulgaria’s Waste Management Sector Last week, German RETech Partnership e.V. had the opportunity to support a delegation trip to Bulgaria for German companies in the waste management and recycling sector. Funded through the #MarketEntryProgramme by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), the trip aimed to foster new cooperation and investment opportunities. The journey began with a conference, bringing together key stakeholders from the Bulgarian waste management industry, German companies, AHK Bulgarien (German-Bulgarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce), Sofia Municipality, and the Bulgarian government. We were honored by the presence of Dr. Rositsa Karamfilova, Advisor on Ecology to the President of Bulgaria, who provided insights into Bulgaria’s environmental policies and sustainability goals. Beyond presentations on the current state of Bulgaria’s waste sector, Luise Billen showcased the strengths of the German waste management and recycling industry and the role of #RETech in fostering international collaboration. Throughout the trip, German companies engaged in valuable exchanges, strengthening partnerships and identifying areas where German expertise can support Bulgaria’s transition to a more sustainable and efficient waste management system. On the Bulgarian side, the importance of trust and strong partnerships was emphasized - reinforcing the vital role of RETech as a international network platform for German companies in the sector. We also had the chance to visit two waste treatment facilities in Sofia, focusing on waste separation and biogas production. Seeing the processes firsthand and talking to employees allowed us to better understand the challenges and opportunities. A special highlight was our visit to the Presidential House, where discussions between Bulgarian politicians, the German companies, BMWK, and the German Embassy focused on strengthening German-Bulgarian cooperation in circular economy. 🤝 This trip reinforced the significance of B2B meetings and on-the-ground visits in unlocking real business opportunities! 💡 BMWK – Markterschließungsprogramm - Shaping New Market Opportunities for the Waste & Recycling Sector ♻️ As a leading german association for the international waste and recycling industry, #RETech has been tasked with developing proposals for the Markterschließungsprogramm” (MEP). With the MEP, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) specifically supports small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in their entry into foreign markets. This funding instrument is also open to self-employed professionals, commercial enterprises, freelancers, and business-related service providers in Germany. We are currently preparing applications for 2026 in close cooperation with AHKs, German associations, and embassies. Through our continuous dialogue with #RETech members and our international network, we identify countries where market discovery and strengthened relationships are needed, ensuring that we select the most suitable MEP modules to support German businesses. Among this year’s planned trips is also an upcoming Market Exploration Trip to Bangladesh, organized by our member bondacon international - BIBC, with RETech supporting its implementation: Bangladesh is taking decisive steps in sustainable waste management, introducing a new ban on single-use plastics alongside various recycling initiatives. 🌍🏝️ Following our successful international conference on waste management for islands in November, we are excited to share some opportunities that have emerged: An international workshop took place in Mauritius from January 27-28 under the theme "Africa & Indian Ocean Islands – Circular and Blue Economy Validation." Organized by the Indian Ocean Commission and supported by the African Union, United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), and the United Nations, German RETech Partnership e.V. contributed valuable expertise through Dipl.-Ing. HASSIM PONDOR from Trans Africa Services and a member of RETech's Expert Group Circular Economy Africa. The workshop focused on developing a regional action plan for the circular economy. We were encouraged by the strong interest in the Call for Projects for Small Island Developing States (SIDS), with discussions about a potential regional initiative for the Indian Ocean Islands. 🌊 Marine Litter - an enormous problem of our time ❗ Last week #RETech joined the event "Marketplace" of the "funding program against marine litter" of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (Bundesministerium für Umwelt, Naturschutz, nukleare Sicherheit und Verbraucherschutz (BMUV) ) since #MarineLitter is caused by inadequate waste management on land.🚯 Collaborative and international approaches are needed to efficiently work on the fundamental problems on land. 🤝 ♻️ #RETech will follow the new call and activate the network to initiate some new holistic project approaches. 🦑 #CircularEconomy #WasteManagement #Recycling #Network #BetterTogether #MarineLitter
🌊 Mehr fürs #Meer | Die Verschmutzung der Ozeane durch #Plastikmüll ist eine der aktuell größten globalen Umweltherausforderungen. Jährlich werden etwa 23 Millionen Tonnen Plastik in unsere Weltmeere gespült – Tendenz leider steigend. Um gute Ideen, die dieses Problem aktiv angehen, ging es deshalb vergangenen Donnerstag beim Marktplatz des "Förderprogramms gegen Meeresmüll" des Bundesministerium für Umwelt, Naturschutz, nukleare Sicherheit und Verbraucherschutz (BMUV) und der Zukunft – Umwelt – Gesellschaft (ZUG) gGmbH. 💧Fließender Übergang: Wie Sebastian Unger zu Beginn hervorhob, verbinden Meere, was Grenzen sonst trennt. Internationale #Zusammenarbeit ist somit unerlässlich. Auf politischer Ebene soll diese in Form des globalen #Plastikabkommens der Vereinten Nationen festgelegt werden. Das Abkommen nimmt sich dem gesamten #Lebenszyklus von Plastikprodukten an und fokussiert sich im Besonderen auf die Vermeidung von Abfällen durch nachhaltiges #Produktdesign. Mit am Verhandlungstisch sitzt Dr. Axel Borchmann. Er gab zu bedenken, dass guter Rat immer teuer ist - innovative Ideen müssen auch umgesetzt und nachhaltig finanziert werden können. 🛟Auftrieb geben: Multilaterale Projekte helfen enorm, die internationale Agenda auf konkrete Handlungsfelder herunterzubrechen und abstrakte Vorgaben lokal umsetzbar zu machen. Mit dem #Förderprogramm gegen Meeresmüll bietet das BMUV einen geeigneten Rahmen, Lösungsansätze zur nachhaltigen #Vermeidung von Plastikverschmutzung zu entwickeln und in Anwendung zu bringen. Wie das funktioniert, zeigte nicht nur Janina Seemann, Auftragsverantwortliche für das Förderprogramm, sondern auch die Vielzahl an Projektdurchführenden, die auf dem Marktplatz ihre Erfahrungen und #Erfolge teilten. ⛵Mit Rückenwind auf Zukunftskurs: Durchbrüche entstehen dort, wo Politik, Gesellschaft und Wirtschaft an einem Strang ziehen. Entsprechend können sich NGOs, Unternehmen, Institute und weitere Akteure mit ihren Lösungsansätzen im laufenden #Förderaufruf auf Unterstützung bewerben.
