  • Visit us at ESA Industry Space Days 2024 We are looking forward to meeting you soon at our booth E40 at the Industry Space Days 2024, which will take place at ESTEC in Noordwijk, The Netherlands, on September 18 and 19, 2024. Hembach Photonik offers both optical engineering services and optical simulation/analysis software. We are a leading European provider of stray-light analysis with an impressive space heritage and have completed more than 30 stray-light projects in recent years. Our optical analysis software, RayJack ONE®, was developed specifically for the requirements of the space industry. In this software, all analysis steps can be performed within a unified simulation environment, including any pre- or post-processing of the data. Stop by at our booth to learn more and explore opportunities for collaboration. We expect our booth to be very busy, so we recommend that you make an official appointment request via the Industry Space Days online portal. #OpticalEngineering #RayJackONE #OpticalSimulation #OpticalSoftware #IndustrySpaceDays #OpticsForSpace #ESA #StrayLightAnalysis

  • Storing ray data in RayJack ONE® In many use-cases, ray data resulting from optical simulations need to be stored on file for a longer period of time, either for documentation purposes or for later re-use, e.g., to avoid repetition of time-consuming simulation runs or to aggregate or combine the results with data from other sources. In order to provide maximum flexibility, RayJack ONE® can save rays to CSV files along with customizable details about their propagation history, such as the number of object intersections, the name of the object from which the rays have scattered, and many others. When the time comes, simply retrieve the data in RayJack ONE® and analyze it according to your needs. If RayJack ONE® is not at hand, you can use Excel or any other software that handles CSV files. If you don’t need all this flexibility, you can store rays in binary files as well. These are faster to read and write and use less disk space than the CSV version. • Advanced Geometry Modelling in RayJack ONE® Freeform surfaces are becoming increasingly popular in optics, mainly because of improved manufacturing techniques, but also because of much improved simulation capabilities. RayJack ONE® has implemented all types of surfaces typically required for optical simulations. If one is missing, users can provide their own surface definitions using #Python functions. As a simple example of a free-form surface, the animation shows ray tracing through a NURBS surface, varying the weight of one of the control points. The animation was done 100% within RayJack ONE®. • Radiant Sphere Light Source in RayJack ONE® The radiant sphere light source in RayJack ONE® simulates the intensity distribution of a distant spherical source with a constant or spatially varying radiance profile. It is very efficient in that it creates rays only on a given aperture, typically the entrance of an optical instrument. A standard application is modeling light from celestial bodies such as the sun, earth and moon, but it is also very well-suited to simulate spot lights and “terrestrial” light sources. As an example, the picture below shows a Cassegrain telescope (left) taking an image of the moon (right). The moon is modeled by a radiant sphere light source at the entrance aperture (red circle). A map of the moon was used to create its radiance distribution. Here we highlight yet another feature of the radiant sphere: it can also be declared as a secondary light source. In our example, the moon is illuminated by the sun in order to simulate the moon phase. Get more information about #RayJackONE by following us here or contacting us through https://lnkd.in/dJfMUa3

Fast and efficient simulation of multiple scattering in RayJack ONE® Scattered light is one of the main contributors of stray light in optical instruments. When multiple scattering is relevant, standard simulation techniques are pushed to their limits requiring excessively long computation times. RayJack ONE® offers a novel technique for multiple scattering. At each scattering event an “observation ray” is sent towards the detector, leading to a much better ray statistics compared to brute-force multiple scattering ray tracing. With this feature, simulation time can be reduced by orders of magnitude in many practically relevant cases.   The figure below explains the principle for a baffle illuminated by a light source outside its exclusion angle. Lots of observation rays (shown in light orange) hit the detector; without using observation rays, just two rays would have arrived on the detector. Interested?
