Cybersecurity and 5G/6G - and Open RAN for that matter - need to go together like birds of a feather. That is why our own Olaf Bonness will be on the panel “Large networks, small networks - what does the future look like?” to talk about our ideas and experiences at the lab. It all happens at the Forum: Cybersicherheit & digitale Souveränität hosted by the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) on Nov, 26th in Dresden. It's a German language event - but for those of you who can speak it, there is more information available on the event's page linked below. There is even the promise of images and presentation being made available after the event. https://lnkd.in/eHTaUvmy #openran #cybersecurity #testingandcertification

Towards Open RAN Ecosystem Diversity – Dire Straits or Brave New World? At this year’s i14y Lab Summit, Paul Sutton, CEO of Software Radio Systems (SRS), took the stage to share his unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities in the Open RAN ecosystem. As a European RAN software vendor with over a decade of experience in specialized network deployments, Paul outlined the lessons SRS has learned from tackling complex challenges in air-to-ground and satellite communications. These insights have made Open RAN a natural fit for their flexible and adaptive approach. Paul highlighted two critical issues shaping the current Open RAN landscape: 🔸 Despite appearing diverse, the ecosystem relies heavily on a limited number of stack implementations, often tied to inflexible hardware. 🔸 The ecosystem is currently sustained by funding rather than revenue—a reality that raises questions about long-term sustainability once external support diminishes. Following Paul’s keynote, Stéphane Téral of TÉRAL RESEARCH joined the discussion, drawing parallels between Open RAN’s evolution and historical patterns of consolidation and innovation in other industries. Together, they explored how flexibility and adaptability—particularly for hardware and software vendors—will be key to thriving in this dynamic ecosystem. What can Lab as a Service provide for Open RAN? After a few weeks of switching gears towards promoting the activities surrounding the Fall 2024 O-RAN ALLIANCE #PlugFest, as well as this year's trip to Dublin for Telecom Infra Project's #Fyuz24, we wanted to circle back and make sure to answer this question by highlighting one of our most successful discussions from this year's i14y Lab Summit: "i14y LaaS - A practical approach to automated validation" This discussion showcased how LaaS is transforming the ecosystem through streamlined lab automation, lifecycle management, and impactful test automation. Here’s a few things that stood out: 🔹 Lab Automation: Building infrastructure as a service to simplify testing environments for interoperability, scalability, and security. 🔹 Lifecycle Management: Creating sustainable processes to maintain and evolve the lab for long-term utility. 🔹 Test Automation: Enabling consistent and repeatable testing with detailed documentation, planning, execution, and reporting—key for certification and reproducibility. A special thank you to those involved: Carsten Rossenhövel (EANTC AG) Jan Klare (BISDN GmbH) Olaf Bonness (i14y Lab) The full discussion is packed with much more information surrounding our process of building and establishing LaaS at the i14y Lab, so make sure to watch that - link in the comments! #i14yLab #OpenRAN #LabAsAService #Innovation

Day 2 at #Fyuz24 brought some more excitement for the i14y Lab! The energy at our booth has been great, with visitors interested to learn more about how we’re shaping the future of Open RAN and network disaggregation. Our team had some interesting conversations about: ✅ How to leverage the i14y Lab for their products and applications (xApps, rApps, SMO, CU|DU). ✅ Our current focus areas and upcoming milestones. ✅ Progress in AI-based testing and validation in the Open RAN space. The feedback we’ve received highlights the growing interest in collaborative approaches like ours. If you haven’t stopped by yet, you still have time! Swing by Booth C09 to chat with our experts and learn how we can support your journey in Open RAN. (And yes, we may still have a few i14y Lab socks 🧦 waiting for you!) #Fyuz2024 #OpenRAN #NetworkDisaggregation

Yesterday was a full day for the i14y Lab at #Fyuz24! We had team members and consortium partners all over the place! Everything from talking "Regional Updates and Case Studies" on the main stage with Petr Ledl (Deutsche Telekom) to discussing "Making Open RAN Deployment-Ready" with Holger Erkens (Deutsche Telekom), Katja Henke (i14y Lab) and Carsten Rossenhövel (EANTC AG). With Fyuz Day 1 down, you have just two more to make your way to our booth and say hi! We are at booth C09 this time around, so keep a look out because we might even have some i14y Lab socks left to give away 🧦 #Fyuz2024 #NetworkDisaggregation #OpenRAN

i14y Lab was invited by IS-Wireless to attend 5G Techritory the other day and Andreas Gladisch gladly took the opportunity. These initiatives show how important it is to talk about all things #openRAN in person. We could not be happier to be on the road for a cause that is dear and near to our heart, so watch out for November as we gear up for yet another conference. #networkdisaggregation #opentogether
We're proud to be the Knowledge Partner of 5G Techritory, the leading telecom event in Central and Eastern Europe. During the 5G Techritory we organized a co-creation event focused on the lessons learned from 5G deployments in an open model. Additionally, IS-Wireless CEO & Founder Slawomir Pietrzyk participated in a panel discussion on open networks. It was a pleasure to return to Riga, Latvia, reconnect with old friends, and establish new partnerships. We consider the CEE our home market and are committed to supporting such initiatives. Thank you to all who attended our event! And a big thank you and congratulations to the entire 5G Techritory Team for the fantastic organization! #5GMadeTogether #6GMadeTogether #5G #6G #5GTechritory #Latvia

How can the RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) shape the future of network management and energy efficiency within open RAN? During a panel discussion at the i14y Lab Summit, we were able to explore the critical role of the RIC. Key takeaways from our panelists include: 🔧 The RIC offers a unique hybrid management solution, bridging traditional and Open RAN ecosystems with programmability and automation. ⚡ Energy efficiency is a central challenge, with collaboration through i14y Lab enabling standardized testing procedures for xApp energy savings. This is key to unlocking true innovation and real-time big data solutions. 🤝 The RIC’s openness fosters better cooperation between industry and academia, driving scientific advancements into practical applications. Thanks to Marcin Hoffmann (Rimedo Labs), Sami Pohjonen (Nokia), Mats Eriksson (Tietoevry) and moderator Gerald Huber (Telefónica Germany) for sharing their expertise with all of us! #RIC #Innovation #NetworkManagement #EnergyEfficiency #OpenRAN

Nothing like some good food and great conversations to wrap up another day of #PlugFest testing! Yesterday and today we invited participants of this years O-RAN ALLIANCE Fall PlugFest to join us in some networking and community events to allow participants to get to know those they've been testing alongside. Last night we hosted a "Speed Dating" open dialogue in which people, both in person and joining in remotely, were encouraged to openly discuss their thoughts on the state of open RAN and the future of their industry collaborations. So many ideas were shared and conversations continued as we move the party to a local Indian restaurant to enjoy a great meal together! And since nobody can say no to another free meal, we invited those at the dinner back again to the lab the next morning for an i14y Lab team breakfast! It has been an eventful few weeks and we want to thank everyone that took the time to be involved in this year's PlugFest so far! We hope it was as enjoyable and insightful for you as it has been for us! #openran #oranplugfest #plugfest2024 #oran
