  • 🚗💡 Transforming Gokarts into Autonomous Marvels! 💡🚗 As part of the "Application of Mechatronic Systems (AMS)" course in the Faculty of Mechanical and Electromechanical Engineering held by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jörg Wollert , our students are diving into an exciting, hands-on project! The challenge? Turning ordinary gokarts into autonomous vehicles. 🤖 Of course, such an ambitious goal can't be tackled all at once. This semester, the focus is on developing a drive-by-wire and steer-by-wire system. This involves not only designing and programming the necessary software but also making mechanical modifications to the gokart itself—a perfect blend of coding, creativity, and engineering! 💻🔧 It’s a big leap, but that’s what makes it so rewarding. Stay tuned to see the incredible progress our students make by the end of the semester! A special shoutout to @DINOCARS and ifm for supporting this journey! 🌟 Are you passionate about building, programming, and innovating? Maybe you'll be part of such exciting projects in the future! #When_Dreams_Take_Flight What an amazing week! I, along with my three friends, Tanishq Todkari, Sarthak Watane and Atharva Balpande, were invited to a sponsored trip to visit the ifm network and control GmbH headquarters in Essen, the SPS – Smart Production Solutions fair in Nuremberg and the ifm electronics factory in Kressbronn in Germany, in regards to an interesting project that we all worked on for ifm's 4.3-inch HMI product. The project was given under the ifm Centre of Excellence lab at Vishwakarma Institute of Information Technology, and was guided by Dr. Shraddha Habbu ma'am, the Head of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering Department, and was reviewed intermittently by Saurabh Palnitkar sir, and Dagmar Schymonski-Dederichs ma'am from ifm for feedback and improvements. In addition to the trade fair, we also got an incredible opportunity to visit the FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences, and take a patient view at their labs, and interact with Prof. Jörg Wollert, the Director of the Institute for Applied Automation and Mechatronics and also their PhD. students, Johannes Hug and others, who were kind enough to show us the very interesting projects they were working on. The projects were based on various futuristic and advanced topics such as industrial training automation via gamification, digital twin technology for automated cocktail maker, CARL (Computer Aided Roller Logger), MASCOR (Mobile Autonomous Systems and Cognitive Robots), VR-based sensor & actuator-embedded driving simulator, automation procedures for bamboo product based manufacturing, research on various additive manufacturing materials & technology apart from FDM and SLS and more. It was truly an enriching experience for me as a mechanical engineer to understand the direction in which the reputed international universities are heading. At the university, a proposal for a collaboration between ifm network and control, FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences and Vishwakarma Institute of Information Technology was discussed, with Prof. Jörg Wollert, Vivek Deshpande sir, Leena Deshpande ma'am, Dr. Shraddha Habbu, Saurabh Palnitkar, Dagmar Schymonski-Dederichs ma'am, on the panel of discussion. The meeting strengthened the ties between the said entities and paved the way for future collaboration. At the SPS trade fair, we presented our project to honorable Michael Schimanowski sir, the CEO of ifm network and control, and Executive Board Member ifm group of companies. He appreciated our work and encouraged us with his words to explore & learn new technologies. It was a truly inspiring interaction. Special thanks to Director sir, Dr. Vivek Deshpande, Leena Deshpande ma'am, Dr. Atul Kulkarni sir, Dr. Shraddha Habbu ma'am, Saurabh Palnitkar sir, Dagmar Schymonski-Dederichs ma'am. Without their encouragement, support and guidance, this would not have been possible. #ifm #SPS #VIIT #automation #germany #collaboration #project

Hier ist also Präzision gefordert. (Alle Bilder wurden vom Studierenden aufgenommen) 🇬🇧 - Mechatronics with a Twist Student Marco Ruchay from the Master's program in Mechatronics is developing a tracking system for a telescope as part of his master's thesis, which is specialized in capturing images of the International Space Station (ISS). 🛰️ The special challenge in this project is that, in order to take sharp images of the ISS, the camera and telescope must track the ISS across the sky. One difficulty is the small size of the ISS; to generate high-resolution images, the magnification is set very high. The telescope sees the ISS as only six arc minutes in size. This requires a high level of precision. (All images were created by the student himself.)

  • "Plug and PlAAS" is a project developed by Benjamin Evans during his research tenure at the FH Aachen - University of Applied Sciences Institute for Applied Automation and Mechatronics under the guidance of Prof. Wollert. The primary objective of the project was to dynamically generate Asset Administration Shells (AASs) using device metadata sourced from existing profiles, particularly those utilized with IO-Link devices. The system has the capability to generate Nameplate submodels and Operational Data submodels for any sensor connected to an IO-Link master. It promptly deploys the newly created AAS to a server and furnishes it with dynamic data sourced from the sensor. As long as the system maintains an internet connection, it can retrieve IODD (IO Device Description) information online, enabling it to generate a tailored AAS specific to each sensor, including its individual serial number, software revisions, etc. When a sensor is disconnected from the system, the operational data is updated to reflect the absence of connection to the device. Upon reconnecting a known device to the IO-Link master, there's no need to generate a new AAS; the system automatically re-establishes the connection to the existing AAS. These capabilities render the system unique at the time of writing. A significant amount of effort was invested in ensuring the system's flexibility, which was needed if it was to have such a fitting name. Furthermore, this project served as the foundation for a paper titled "Automatic Generation and Orchestration of Active Asset Administration Shells with IO-Link," which was presented at the "Kommunikation in der Automation" conference in Magdeburg, Germany, in November 2023. The open-access paper is available at https://lnkd.in/egjrCS6W for those interested in delving into the technical intricacies of the project. Did we wake your interest?
