Hans Kurt Tönshoff Prize and Cooperation Prize awarded at the IFW Christmas party. The party was not only festive, but also a reason to celebrate: Dr.- Ing. Sebastian Kaiser, Malte Kraeft and Lasse Willgeroth were honored for their outstanding achievements. 🏆 Hans Kurt Tönshoff Prize for the Best Dissertation: In his award-winning dissertation, Sebastian Kaiser developed a semi-autonomous production cell for medical technology. The solution he designed monitors the manufacturing process using a sensory clamping system that records measurement data in real time. In addition, tactile and optical measuring techniques enable immediate quality control after production. 🤝 Cooperation Prize for Outstanding Collaboration: The prize went to Lasse Willgeroth and Malte Kraeft for their exemplary teamwork. Among other things, they were recognized for setting up various innovative processes. One example is a method for determining the mechanical load and internal stresses on worn cutting tools. At 🎅 Christmas time, we often think of traditions and moments of indulgence - and what could be more Christmassy than the art of the chocolate chip? 🍫 With a little wink, we would like to say goodbye for this year. In the photo you can see our 🎄 Advent wreath decorated with metallic chips. These chips illustrate a problem that we encounter every day: Under normal conditions, metallic materials oxidize quickly, making them difficult to recycle. They therefore often end up as waste, even though they contain valuable resources. But there is another way: take a look at the comments. There you can see 📸 the wreath with chips that we have machined oxygen-free. These are not oxidized and can be further processed without any problems. 🔍 Why is this important? Oxygen-free machining minimizes chemical impurities in the materials. It therefore improves resource efficiency and enables more sustainable use of metallic materials. Customised cutting tool microgeometries can dramatically improve tool performance, increase productivity and ensure reliable processes. We have developed a design method for optimal cutting edge microgeometry for internal turning processes. 👉 What we have achieved: In collaboration with MAPAL Dr. Kress KG, we have developed a novel approach to the design of cutting edge tools: ▫️ Understanding loads: Thermomechanical loads during internal turning were determined to optimise cutting edge design. ▫️ Optimised brushing process: Development of an industrial process that enables customised micro-geometries tailored to the needs of the customer and the process. ▫️ Improved performance: The tools developed using this method have greater stability and performance, which reduces costs and increases efficiency.
