Info

Inspire Medical Systems, Inc. has developed the world’s first fully implanted neurostimulation device for the treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). The Inspire system uses well-established neurostimulation technologies and incorporates a proprietary algorithm that stimulates key airway muscles based on a patient’s unique breathing patterns. Inspire therapy is designed to reduce OSA severity and improve quality of life for patients living with this challenging condition. Inspire therapy works inside the body with the natural breathing process. It might be an effective treatment alternative for OSA patients that can't use or don't get relief from CPAP/BiPAP. • Many common #CPAP therapy challenges can be efficiently addressed by #sleep specialists and providers, often leading to improved outcomes and successful treatment. While this is the case for many, some patients with obstructive sleep apnoea (#OSA) may experience ongoing difficulties with CPAP, whether technical or therapy-related. In these situations, patients often explore additional support, including self-help groups, to gather tips and ideas. For those who still face challenges after multiple attempts, there are alternative treatments available, such as hypoglossal nerve stimulation (#HGNS). • Holger W. noticed himself that he snored at night, but dismissed it as not a big deal for a long time. It was his wife who was worried and pointed out to him that he kept stopping breathing at night. Holger W. went to an #ENT specialist because he had been feeling the effects of his restless nights for some time: The forklift driver was constantly tired, exhausted and depleted during the day. His ability to work for the volunteer fire department was also in doubt. "I almost lost my truck driver's license," the Thuringian looks back. After a visit to the ENT specialist, the diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnoea (#OSA) was confirmed. Holger W. was prescribed the standard therapy: a #CPAP mask. But it had unpleasant side effects for Holger W. His wife also found it difficult to tolerate the device in the bedroom. Holger W. discontinued the CPAP therapy and contacted his ENT specialist again. He recommended #Inspire therapy to him. Holger W. was examined again to assess whether he met the requirements for the system. This was the case, and a short time later he underwent surgery at the Bundeswehr Hospital in Ulm. That was in January 2022. Since then, Holger W. has been able to tackle life with renewed energy and motivation, which his granddaughter in particular is very happy about. The #firefighter is also better able to cope with his night shifts again. And his truck driver's license was also renewed without any problems.      Learn more about Inspire therapy at: GER: https://lnkd.in/gs4BCTJu NL: https://lnkd.in/dmrPgtk UK: https://lnkd.in/eUuE5XBS FR: https://lnkd.in/eVvqBMg2 #sleep #HGNS #UAS ___ (This patient testimonial and sleep apnoea treatment review relates to accounts of an individual’s response to treatment. • #Inspire announces countrywide #reimbursement in France: “We are thrilled to offer our clinically proven treatment option for moderate to severe #OSA to patients and physicians in France,” said Tim Herbert, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Inspire. “Inspire therapy is backed by a strong body of evidence and years of clinical experience demonstrating the safety and efficacy of our therapy.” The addition of full reimbursement in France expands the market opportunity as France is the second largest OSA market in Europe. The approval in France provides reimbursement consistent with other European and global markets. “Thanks to the reimbursement of Inspire therapy by the French Social Security, sleep physicians now have a new therapeutic option for patients with untreated OSA,” said Andreas Henke, Executive Vice President and Managing Director of Europe. • OSA patients in the UK can benefit from Inspire! UCLH has become the first NHS centre in the UK to provide patients with obstructive sleep apnœa (OSA) the option of choosing from different nerve stimulation devices to manage their condition. Upper airway stimulation is a proven effective therapy for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) for patients who cannot tolerate CPAP. • “You were snoring so much I had to escape to the sofa”. Karin K. heard this from her husband almost every day. The symptoms and consequences of obstructive sleep apnoea (#OSA) were just as much a burden for the pensioner as the side effects of the initial #CPAP therapy. After much agonising, air in her stomach and panic attacks led her to discontinue this therapy. While searching for alternatives, Karin came across a review of #Inspire therapy online and was implanted with the system in September 2020. After activating and fine-tuning the system, Karin now feels more energised again and her snoring has been significantly reduced. “My husband sleeps like a log now and I also enjoy sleeping in our shared bedroom again”, she reports. • #Inspire therapy at a glance: Upper airway stimulation (#UAS) is an alternative for patients with obstructive sleep apnoea (#OSA) who cannot use #CPAP ventilation or related procedures, or for whom this treatment is not sufficiently effective. The Inspire system consists of three implantable components: a small generator, a breathing sensor and a stimulation electrode, which are controlled together via a small remote control. Careful selection of patients, targeted stimulation of specific airway muscles and optimal timing of hypoglossal stimulation are key to keeping the airways open during sleep and achieving the best possible outcome for patients. • Tired, exhausted, unable to concentrate, irritable, constant headaches – Sascha G. still remembers what his everyday life was like before he had his obstructive sleep apnoea (#OSA) treated. His symptoms not only put a strain on the IT administrator at work, but also on his marriage. “My wife Amela threatened me with separate bedrooms”, he says. “She was also regularly sleep-deprived as she spent lots of nights sleeping on the sofa”. By the time he was diagnosed with OSA in 2016, he and his wife were already very concerned, particularly by his sleep apnoea at night. Sascha G. was treated with various CPAP masks for four and a half years. However, he repeatedly developed side effects such as reflux and bloating. The dog lover sought advice from an OSA self-help group, who encouraged him to get in touch with Inspire. In 2020, he was finally implanted with the Inspire system. “Since then, I can begin the day more rested and fitter”, says Sascha G. with satisfaction. “I would recommend all those affected who are not coping with their previous therapy to find out more about Inspire therapy”.
