Trump’s Second Term: NATO, War, and the Economy Donald Trump has returned to the presidency demanding that NATO nations increase their military spending to 3%, possibly 5% of GDP, and threating massive tariffs. His commitments to NATO remain uncertain, as does his administration’s approach to the Ukraine War and possible ceasefire-related diplomacy. His “America First” agenda includes a $100 billion increase in the Pentagon’s already gargantuan budget. What are the implications for Euro-American relations with Russia, for NATO or pressures for an independent European military, for the U.S., European, and world economies? How should U..S. and European peace movements respond? Speakers: Niamh Ni Bhriain, Reiner Braun, Michael Klare. Organizers: International Peace Bureau, Campaign for Peace, Disarmament and Common Security, Reiner Braun, Kate Hudson Co-Sponsor: Massachusetts Peace Action

Nobel Peace Laureate dedicated to a world without war, focusing on peace and disarmament for development.
Info
The International Peace Bureau is dedicated to the vision of a World Without War. Our current main programme centres on Disarmament for Sustainable Development and within this, our focus is mainly on the reallocation of military expenditure. We believe that by reducing funding for the military sector, significant amounts of money could be released for social projects, domestically or abroad, which could lead to the fulfilment of real human needs and the protection of the environment. At the same time, we support a range of disarmament campaigns and supply data on the economic dimensions of weapons and conflicts. Our campaigning work on nuclear disarmament began already in the 1980s.

❗ Must Read Report ❗ A needed step to strengthen the Nuclear-weapon-free zones (NWFZ) regime Nuclear-weapon-free zones (NWFZs) are vital regional measures that promote strategic stability, nuclear non-proliferation, and trust among states. Today, NWFZs span over 115 countries, covering 84 million km² of land and representing 39% of the world’s population—almost 60% of UN membership. While much has been achieved in the past 50 years, there’s more work ahead. Expanding the NWFZ regime to include oceans and seas (70% of Earth’s surface) would bring us closer to a nuclear-weapon-free world. 📍 A Call for Solutions to Safeguard Democracy in South Korea The International Peace Bureau (IPB) stands in unwavering solidarity with the people of South Korea, who are bravely defending democracy against the unconstitutional declaration of martial law. Recent events highlight serious violations of constitutional law by the government and military. Their struggle is not just a national concern but a global imperative - a reminder that democracy must be protected against all forms of authoritarian backsliding. We support the democratic forces working to reclaim democracy and hold those responsible accountable.
