🏎️ 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗿, 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿, 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝗿 – 𝗩𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗴𝗻𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻! 🔥🔍 A few weeks ago, we had the pleasure of visiting StarkStrom Augsburg e.V. in their workshop. 🙌 After a warm welcome and a brief introduction, we kicked off our workshop on “Onboard vehicle diagnostics”. Giacomo Latrofa and Sander Boksebeld from ITK Engineering highlighted the importance of onboard diagnostics and their benefits in motorsport. Automatic detection of sensor or system failures can greatly improve safety, maintain vehicle reliability and performance, avoid technical infringement and ensure the car can cross the finish line! 🏁 🏆 We took a deep dive into processing analog and digital sensor inputs and the possible erroneous behavior such sensors can experience. Together with the students, we worked on practical exercises to develop algorithms for detecting sensor failures. In the second part of the workshop, we discussed sensor plausibility and sensor fusion — comparing redundant or alternative sensors to identify faulty sensor signals and combining multiple sensor inputs into an improved input signal. We also explored control strategies for error handling mitigate the system impact once a fault is detected.
