Managing Director & Co-Founder at iuvando Health | Physician, scientist and healthcare entrepreneur enabling access to clinical trials for cancer patients.

I feel deeply humbled to be featured in the Süddeutsche Zeitung, reflecting on my path as a physician-scientist and entrepreneur. My story, like many others, is one of global roots and local impact. Born in Germany to Indian parents, I was fortunate enough to grow up in a supportive environment inspired by a family of doctors who showed me that medicine is more than a profession - it’s a commitment to serve. In 2019, alongside my co-founder and friend Dr. Benjamin Hanfstein, I launched iuvando Health to tackle one of the most pressing challenges in oncology: how to connect cancer patients to clinical trials. Powered by AI, our platform personalizes the search for patients, ensuring they have access to cutting-edge treatments tailored to their disease. Today, our growing team works across borders, united by a mission to make cancer care smarter and more accessible. The Süddeutsche Zeitung article explores how individuals with migration backgrounds, like myself and many others such as Angela Relógio, are shaping Germany’s startup ecosystem. It’s no coincidence that many of us, including incredible trailblazers like Ugur Sahin and Özlem Türeci, have found opportunities in healthcare and biotech. Our shared experiences of navigating new systems and challenging norms fuel our resilience and innovation. For iuvando Health, the journey doesn’t stop here and the next chapter is a particularly exciting one. Amidst our U.S. expansion, we remain committed to scale our impact in a region with the highest density of clinical trials while staying true to our values: growth driven by meaningful partnerships and sustainable solutions, not overpromised hype. A big thank you to the Süddeutsche Zeitung for spotlighting these stories and to everyone who’s supported iuvando Health along the way - be it patient organizations, cancer centers, health care insurances or drug makers and many well-wishers. Let’s continue building a world where personalized medicine is not just a possibility, but a reality for all. Great pleasure to participate in the #ZEITfürForschung event hosted by ZEIT Verlagsgruppe and Bayer, where we explored critical topics shaping the future of innovation ecosystems in Germany and across Europe. It was truly inspiring to engage with Stefan Oelrich and Hildegard Bentele on how we can unlock the immense potential of Germany's and Europe's research landscapes. We also discussed the promising opportunities presented by the Medicines Research Act (Medizinforschungsgesetz), which aims to strengthen Germany as a hub for cutting-edge research. Central to our conversation was the importance of enabling early patient access to innovative treatments through clinical trials. This act not only paves the way for better healthcare outcomes but also creates opportunities to advancing medical innovation.   At iuvando Health, we are deeply committed to leveraging a digital and human-centric approach to bring innovative cancer therapies to patients. By fostering collaboration, exploring new methods of evidence generation, and nurturing a strong innovation ecosystem, we can ensure that Europe remains at the forefront of global medical advancements. A special thank you to Katja Schubert and Katja Leppler for the excellent event planning and to Jan Schweitzer, Dr. Mark Schiffhauer and the ZEIT Verlagsgruppe for facilitating such an insightful discussion and the opportunity to share our vision for the future of healthcare. Truly enjoyed speaking with Inga Bergen on the Visionäre der Gesundheit (m/w/d) podcast about the importance of patient access to clinical trials in oncology. For me personally and our team at iuvando Health, the integration of technology, digitalization, and empathy centered around real patient needs (and not the other way around) remain a critical priority towards a solution! Thank you very much for the engaging and wide-ranging conversation and for having me, Inga! Link to episode: https://lnkd.in/gga6bHcm

I am immensely grateful to share my podcast debut on "Krebs! Was nun?" with Nils F. Glaubke! Host Nils was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer at the age of 39. Faced with this daunting diagnosis, Nils has turned his personal fate into a mission to empower and educate other cancer patients. This episode delves into the crucial role of clinical trials in cancer research and treatment. We addressed a common concern: the fear that participants in clinical trials are merely "guinea pigs." This perception is not only far from reality, it’s post-factual and undermines the trust in science and evidence-based medicine. It needs to be corrected. Clinical trials in oncology are designed with highest ethical standards and are vital for developing new and effective cancer therapies. They offer access to cutting-edge treatments that might not yet be available to the general public. For many patients, clinical trials provide a lifeline, potentially extending their lives or improving their quality of life. The rigorous process of informed consent ensures that patients are thoroughly educated about the trial's purpose, procedures, risks, and benefits before deciding to participate. This empowers patients to be active decision-makers. Our conversation also touched on the broader impact of clinical trials on the medical community and future patients. Each trial contributes valuable data that improves our understanding of cancer and refines existing treatments. The advancements made through these trials can lead to breakthroughs that benefit countless individuals worldwide. Speaking with Nils who benefited from our work at iuvando Health was profoundly inspiring. It was the pressing needs of patients like Nils that motivated us to start the company in 2019. Witnessing the impact of our efforts come full circle - helping patients find new treatment options and then having those patients educate and guide others - is truly gratifying. I would like to invite you all to listen to our conversation and follow Nils' podcast. Let's continue to build a future where every patient's voice is heard, and every fate is met with compassion and cutting-edge solutions. Thank you, Nils for this wonderful opportunity to speak with you and all your remarkable work for patients!

I am deeply honored and humbled to be awarded the German Startup Award as Impact Entrepreneur of the Year 2024. This recognition is certainly not just mine, but belongs to all those who believed in our vision and are working tirelessly to make it a reality. A special thanks to my friend and co-founder Dr. Benjamin Hanfstein and the entire team at iuvando Health, our partners across patient organizations, cancer centers, health insurances, and the pharmaceutical industry - and last but not least - my friends and family! “I am very optimistic that the lights will not go out soon in Germany, but that we have not even switched them on yet in most areas,” said Verena Pausder, Chairwomen of the German Startup-Verband in her inspiring opening remarks at the award ceremony of the German Startup Awards 2024 this week in Berlin.   To extend Verena’s metaphor: for me, the beauty and fascination of entrepreneurship lie in exactly that opportunity - the attempt to enter areas of darkness, install light switches, and turn them on. As a physician and scientist in the field of cancer medicine, founding a company was not something I had planned or even was prepared for. All the more grateful I am for all the lows and highs I encountered along the path of entrepreneurship – they have been instrumental for my professional and personal growth.   I would like to especially thank the Startup-Verband for their important work and a fantastic evening, Germany’s Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck for his empowering words and support of the startup ecosystem, Dr. Maximilian Oehl and Janna Linke for their very warm welcome on stage, and the jury for selecting us.    Let's all together think about how to make dreams possible, creatively approach solutions, and most importantly, start acting – let’s switch the lights on!   Congratulations to my fellow nominees Ben Unterkofler and Philipp Schröder as well as to the other awardees Kristina Nikolaus, Jonas Andrulis, Nils Aldag, Angela Relógio, Ish Dhand, Kristina Lunz, Gloria Baeuerlein, and Jan Miczaika!

I am immensely excited to be joining the EUROPE 2024 conference in Berlin starting today jointly hosted by DIE ZEIT, Handelsblatt, Verlag Der Tagesspiegel, and WirtschaftsWoche. The conference will be discussing Europe's competitiveness and its political and economic future with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action Robert Habeck, his French counterpart Bruno Le Maire and many other distinguished guests. I'm very much looking forward to our panel "Research & Progress - Are the Conditions in Place?" with Andreas Gerber and Gabriele Katzmarek, moderated by Jürgen Klöckner as part of the "Health and Innovation" focus topic. Being a physician and entrepreneur, these trying times are about turning challenges into opportunities. I’m convinced that the field of healthcare/medicine needs to be a trailblazer to showcase how scientific discoveries are translated into practical solutions that have a tangible social, economic and political impact.
