Speech models can be as reliable as gold standard measures in distinguishing depressed individuals. 💡 This is a conclusion from our ongoing research, where we compared our speech model to Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II), a golden standard test. 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞: ➡️ 44 patients with major depressive disorder. ➡️ 52 healthy controls. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐞𝐜𝐡 𝐭𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐬 𝐰𝐞 𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐝: ➡️ Positive storytelling (~1 min). ➡️ Negative storytelling (~1 min). 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐬*: ➡️ BDI-II: AUC = 0.992 ➡️ Speech model: AUC = 0.960 *AUC - Area under Receiver Operator Characteristic Curve This research is part of the #EmoCon study we developed in partnership with RWTH Aachen University, which is funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - German Research Foundation. How reliable is automated remote speech-based testing? A LOT! 👌 We found: ✅ 96% of agreement between manual and automatic transcription for word count. ✅ High levels of discrimination between cognitively impaired and unimpaired individuals. These are some of the main findings of our latest article, published in an Alzheimer's Association® journal. This study included 78 participants with varied cognitive diagnostics: ➡️ Healthy controls. ➡️ Subjective cognitive decline. ➡️ Mild cognitive impairment ➡️ Dementia (Alzheirmer’s Disease-related). The participants completed a Semantic Verbal Fluency task through our automated chatbot, Mili. Then, we transcribed the audios using 2 approaches: manual vs automatic transcription. This data was obtained through PROSPECT-AD study: a collaboration between ki:elements and German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE), funded by the Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation. Thank you to our team members (Alexandra König, Johannes Tröger, and Elisa MALLICK) for helping me put this research out there! 🙏 FULL ARTICLE: https://lnkd.in/e2hMgVT8

📢 NEW resources alert! 📅 Join us on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 11 a.m. ET for the public launch event, “Transforming Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias Research: New Core Digital Clinical Measures,” where DATAcc by DiMe will unveil the new Core Measures of ADRD and accompanying resources! 🧠 Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) cases are rising globally, with care costs soaring and the burden of care becoming more complex. Chronic comorbidities affect 95% of individuals with ADRD, and over 16 million family and friends are relied on as caregivers, carrying the emotional and #financial weight. Yet, research continues to lack #diversity, especially in underrepresented populations like Hispanic and non-white communities. This leaves gaps in understanding how different populations experience #ADRD and respond to treatments. DATAcc’s new unified core measures for ADRD are specifically designed to fill critical research gaps, prioritize the needs of patients and caregivers, and enhance understanding of diverse populations' experiences and responses to ADRD treatments. 💡 Join this event to learn about: ▪️ The new core set of ADRD measures reflecting independent meaningful aspects of health within the #dementia community ▪️Free resources you can use to quickly implement the measures into your research and care community ▪️Updates to DATAcc’s Library of Digital Measurement Products, the global, evidence-based resource for selecting digital health technologies (DHTs) to implement the core measures DATAcc’s globally accepted set of core ADRD measures will transform the development of #digital measures in ADRD, preventing siloed efforts that limit progress. By placing the patient voice at the heart of novel treatment development we will fuel progress in addressing the complexity of these diseases. 🚀 Join us and be among the first in the field to access the new resources. Who is joining me at CNS Summit? 😎 I will be speaking about an automatic measure of speech intelligibility, one of our current research projects at ki:elements. Speech problems in Parkinson’s and Huntington’s Disease significantly affect patients' daily lives. Objective measurements of speech intelligibility could serve as new outcome measures in clinical trials. 👌 Who else is traveling to Boston for #CNSSummit? I look forward to connecting with you!

✅ Excessive loudness variation is linked to impulsivity in people with #Parkinson’s Disease. 🗣 In our latest study, 77 patients with Parkinson’s Disease performed 3 speech tasks: ➡️ Rapid syllable repetition of /pa/-/ta/-/ka/. ➡️ Rhythmic repetition of the syllable /pa/. ➡️ Reading. Then, we examined how the speech features compared to QUIP Rating Scale*. 𝐌𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬: For both the rhythm and the reading task: ✅ The number of loudness peaks per second was correlated with the QUIP score. ✅ The number of loudness peaks per second differed significantly between the two QUIP groups (affected vs not affected). ✅ Excessive loudness variation is linked to impulsivity, with the effect being more pronounced in the rhythm task. This research is a collaboration between the University of Cologne and ki:elements. Props to our team members (Dr. Tabea Thies, Elisa MALLICK, Johannes Tröger) for all the work on this one! 👏 For more details, you can read our #MDS abstract here: https://lnkd.in/eW4bWuTT ___ * Questionnaire for Impulsive-Compulsive Disorders in Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale
