🚨Don't miss it! Tomorrow (February 14) is the registration deadline for this special edition of the AI Colloquium with Edward A. Lee. After his talk, there will also be an exciting and in-depth panel discussion with him. Hurry up to register now and be there on February 20. 🤓🚀 You can find all further information in the post below ⬇️
‼️ Attention: changed location. Due to high demand, the event will take place at Campus South in Lecture Hall 1, Lecture Hall 6. The #AIColloquium is back with Prof. Edward Lee! 🤖🌍 We are very excited to welcome Prof. Edward A. Lee to the AI Colloquium at Technische Universität Dortmund for a keynote that delves into the evolving relationship between #AI, #embodiment, and #cognition: "Will Embodied AI Become Sentient?". 🔍 Abstract Today’s large language models (#LLM) have minimal interaction with the physical world, limiting their cognitive potential. Embodied #robotics explores how deep neural networks develop new properties when they can both sense and act in their environment. Prof. Lee will discuss how this shift enables subjective involvement, making processes beyond objective observation possible. Drawing on Turing Award-winning theories, he will explore: 📌 Causality & Accountability – Can robots reason about causation and be held accountable? (Judea Pearl) 📌 Subjective Knowledge – Can knowledge exist without being externally observable? (Shafi Goldwasser & Silvio Micali) 📌 First-Person Interaction – Can direct interaction reveal insights that observation alone cannot? (Robin Milner) He will ultimately ask: Can embodied AI truly become sentient? And if so, how would we ever know? 🤔 👨🏫 About the Speaker Prof. Edward A. Lee has over four decades of expertise in embedded software systems. After academic and professional experiences at Yale, MIT, and Bell Labs, he joined University of California, Berkeley, where he is now a Professor of the Graduate School in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (EECS). He co-founded Xronos Inc. and BDTI, Inc., initiated the Lingua Franca and Ptolemy open-source projects, and has co-authored textbooks on embedded systems, signals and systems, digital communications, and the broader societal impacts of technology. His current research focuses on distributed cyber-physical systems. 🗓️ Event Details 📍 Where: TU Dortmund, Campus Süd, August-Schmidt-Str., 4HG1/HS6 📅 When: February 20, 2025, 2:15 PM - 3:45 PM ✏️ Register here: https://lnkd.in/eUxahYGb 💬 Panel Discussion with Edward A. Lee After the talk, join us for an interdisciplinary panel discussion featuring: 🎤 Prof. Nicole Krämer (Research Center Trustworthy Data Science and Security) 🎤 Prof. Jens Gerken & Prof. Sergio Lucia (Technische Universität Dortmund) 🎤 Prof. Eva Schmidt (Lamarr Institute 🎤 Moderation: Prof. Jakob Rehof (Lamarr Institute) The event will conclude with snacks and drinks in the foyer of our computer science building, offering an excellent opportunity for informal discussions and networking. Don't miss this thought-provoking discussion at the intersection of AI, cognition, and philosophy. ❗️Registrations are open until the 14.02! 🌟 #EmbodiedAI #CognitiveScience #MachineLearning #ArtificialIntelligence

🌍🤖𝗔𝗜 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗚𝗮𝗺𝗲-𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲’𝘀 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲! On February 10 and 11, the #AIActionSummit in Paris brought together some of the brightest minds and key decision-makers from politics, business, and research. Lamarr Institutes co-Director Stefan Wrobel summed up the event perfectly: "The AI Summit made it clear that artificial intelligence is going to be a game-changer for Europe's future. If we can get politics, business, and research to work together, we can boost investment and create a ton of new opportunities. Germany should take a page out of Paris's book and make artificial intelligence a top priority. We've got the technology; now we need to focus on scaling up quickly, creating sustainable business models, and digital sovereignty." Just two weeks ago, 37 leading companies and research institutions from Germany and France, including our partner Fraunhofer IAIS, published an #ActionPaper. This document not only emphasizes the urgent need for action but also provides concrete recommendations for policymakers to accelerate progress in AI development across Europe. Paris has shown what’s possible when ambition meets collaboration – now it’s time for all of us to take action! 🇪🇺🤝 #ArtificialIntelligence #Innovation #EuropeAI #Collaboration

🗳️ 𝗕𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗴𝘀𝘄𝗮𝗵𝗹 2025: 𝗙𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝘄𝘀 𝗶𝗺 𝗪𝗮𝗵𝗹𝗸𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗳 – 𝘄𝗶𝗲 𝗸𝗮𝗻𝗻 𝗞𝗜 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗳𝗲𝗻? 🔗 𝗠𝗲𝗵𝗿 𝗱𝗮𝘇𝘂 𝗶𝗺 𝗕𝗹𝗼𝗴: https://lnkd.in/exsynN2A #KIgegenFakeNews #AIforTrust #Bundestagswahl2025 #Desinformation #Faktencheck © Clarote & AI4Media / Better Images of AI / Power/Profit / CC-BY 4.0
