The idea to found an Online Marketing agency for the hospitality industry and tourism sector was born from countless conversations with hoteliers, tourism associations, universities and many other stakeholders of the industry. Our #remotework perks in January: the "office" is a sunny beach for some team members, while others are bundled up in layers, complaining about the snowstorm outside.     It's December, time to start spreading the Christmas cheer! So, we decided to get the party started with the Studio #49ers and the Sandgrain crew! 🎄   We went to Schwarze Heidi for some delicious fondue, followed by a little friendly competition with pool and darts. Safe to say, we’re still recovering from a serious cheese coma – too delicious to resist. 🧀 Gifts were given in a round of Secret Santa (or “Wichteln” as we would say) and you would never guess what present hit the nerve and got us all rolling on the floor laughing, but feel free to take a guess. 😉🎅   Good food, lots of laughs, and the perfect way to take a breather after a busy year filled with game-changing ideas for #hospitality and many #onlinemarketing adventures.     This month, Team SMACK explored many facets of hospitality and even ventured into the fashion world. 👜 Pier Paolo Righi, CEO of KARL LAGERFELD, shared how the brand has evolved since Karl’s passing, staying true to his visionary approach to luxury and creativity. The conversation was packed with style and insider details, including their latest move into hospitality with plans for #brandedresidences. Imagine stepping into a space that perfectly captures Lagerfeld’s iconic, timeless style—glamorous, elegant, and definitely no sweatpants allowed. 😉 🏨 Felicity Black-Roberts, Senior Vice President at Hyatt Hotels Development EAME, shared her insights on the evolving hotel investment landscape across Europe and the Middle East at the Future Hospitality Summit in Dubai. She discussed how Hyatt is positioning its brands to meet the unique needs of acquisitions while offering hotel owners the benefits of global brand recognition, loyalty programs, and operational expertise. 🌱 Paul Griep, Director of Alumni & Industry Relations at Hotelschool The Hague, introduced the #SustainableHospitalityChallenge on this month’s Ask Me Anything. Team SMACK caught him in front of the camera to learn more about this global student competition, that encourages the next generation of hoteliers to develop innovative, #sustainable solutions for the industry. As always, they also snuck in a couple of personal questions. ☕ Mieke Berkers, Director of European Business Development at Montgomery Group, kicked off the first-ever Breaktime episode with Mari, giving us the inside scoop on the Independent Hotel Show Munich making its debut in Germany.     The #49ers were on tour again 🚅   This time we were at the first-ever Independent Hotel Show Munich. We loved exploring all the different exhibitors, taking in all the inspiration from panel discussions and connecting with cool people who rock the #hospitality world.   There were many great panels and a lot of insights to take home - from “Why big hotel chains are stepping into the niche market of boutique hotels” to Fritz’s session on stage, sharing “10 tips on managing your online reputation as a hotel” - the inspo tank is filled to the max.   Here are our favorite takeaways: 💡 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐟𝐟 𝐜𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠: Haus im Tal is working with a coach to help team members cope with struggles in work and life.  🌍 𝐀𝐈 s𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭: Caroline von Kretschmann pointed out that AI is revolutionizing everything. Even the way we tackle food waste and purchasing decisions.     1️⃣0️⃣/2️⃣4️⃣ - October Update: New Horizons. From growing the team at Studio 49 and battling through what we call "pitching season" in the agency world, to having the #CEO of one of the most iconic fashion brands on the planet on the SMACK Hospitality hospitality podcast, the last couple of weeks have been an incredible ride with plenty of highs and a couple of lows along the way. It was great to be back at the Future Hospitality Summit at the beginning of the month, celebrating the incredible success of the event in #Dubai hosted by The Bench team. Jonathan & Tanja, thank you once again for your hospitality having me share the stage with Shamsh Hadi, Tjalling van den Burger, Gavin Weaver and Mohammed Altajir - nice to meet you all, gentlemen. Jonathan, thanks for allowing David Keen and me to swing by your 40th (or 41st?!) birthday celebrations while in Dubai. For the first time in Studio 49's history, we're going through a fairly extensive hiring process at the moment with multiple open positions in our content and community team, and it's been refreshing to see that about 30% of the applications we are receiving are from outside of the hospitality industry, suggesting a fairly strong interest in the business - even for us as an agency to the travel sector that hasn't always been the case in recent years.
