Thanks Jan Ozer for giving MainConcept the opportunity to participate in this discussion on commercial codecs. Highlighting one of Thomas Kramer's points, “for publishers with specific format requirements, alternative codecs [like MainConcept's] may be optimised to provide support for the full format, including production formats around AVC and HEVC 422/10-bit...”
When should you license a third-party commercial codec? My latest in Streaming Media Europe. Streaming platforms and video services have long relied on open-source codecs like x264, x265, SVT-AV1, libaom, and libvp9, all readily available in FFmpeg. For many users, these codecs offer sufficient quality, efficiency, and device compatibility at no cost. Yet, some companies choose to license commercial codec implementations from vendors such as MainConcept, Beamr, and Visionular. Many thanks to Thomas Kramer, Tamar Shoham, and Krishna Rao Vijayanagar. https://lnkd.in/g-tZf4aB Beamr, MainConcept, Visionular Inc.MulticoreWare Inc

ACM Mile High Video: We asked our presales engineer, Ivan Andryushin, what he’s enjoyed hearing about so far at MHV 2025. Here is what he told us: 📹 Multi-CDN – ideas to solve delivery issues came from two opposite corners: neural network driven and linear programming calculated. 📼 Short video format continues to grow, but according to a case study shared, 50% of these videos are not seen. CDN costs can be reduced if delivery is optimized with limited sharing in mind. 🎥 OTT scaling – ad delivery remains a hot topic, inserting them is still a big resource drain. One solution presented was to make fewer MPD requests by estimating an ad break, adding predictive templates, and more. Are you attending MHV? What has resonated with you? 👇
