Here’s a brief overview of some key terms: ➡️ 𝐒𝐔𝐏𝐈 (𝐒𝐮𝐛𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐈𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐫) The SUPI is a permanent identifier assigned to a subscriber in 5G. Similar to the IMSI in earlier networks, it is primarily used during initial network registration. However, to enhance privacy, the SUPI is rarely transmitted over the air. ➡️ SUCI (Subscription Concealed Identifier) The SUCI is a one-time-use identifier derived from the SUPI and sent to the network during authentication. It ensures the privacy of the SUPI by using encryption techniques, thus preventing unauthorized interception of sensitive subscriber information. ➡️ GPSI (Generic Public Subscription Identifier) The GPSI allows subscribers to use public identifiers, such as an email address or phone number, to identify their subscription for application-level interactions or user-friendly identification in services. ➡️ PEI (Permanent Equipment Identifier) The PEI uniquely identifies a user's equipment, such as a smartphone or IoT device, in the network. Examples of PEI include the IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) and MAC (Media Access Control) addresses. ➡️ 5G-GUTI (5G Globally Unique Temporary Identifier) The 5G-GUTI is a temporary identifier assigned to a device after successful authentication. It replaces the SUPI during ongoing communication to enhance user privacy and reduce tracking risks. ➡️ NGAP ID (Next Generation Application Protocol Identifier) The NGAP ID is used in the signaling between the gNB (5G base station) and the AMF (Access and Mobility Management Function). It ensures proper tracking and association of sessions within the 5G core. ➡️ XnAP ID (Xn Application Protocol Identifier) The XnAP ID is utilized for signaling between neighboring gNBs in 5G. It facilitates tasks such as handovers and inter-base station communication, ensuring a seamless user experience. ➡️ 5QI (5G Quality Indicator) The 5QI specifies the QoS characteristics for a 5G flow. It determines parameters such as latency, priority, and packet error rate, ensuring optimized handling of diverse services like streaming, gaming, or IoT. ➡️ QFI (QoS Flow Identifier) The QFI identifies individual QoS flows within a PDU session. Each QFI corresponds to a specific application or service's quality requirements, enabling tailored network resource allocation.
