The 𝗖𝗧𝗢 𝗥𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 is an exclusive, ongoing roundtable for early-stage CTOs (up to Series A) to connect, collaborate, and share insights in a supportive, peer-driven environment. Hosted at the AI Campus, and innitiated by Jan Zawadzki, Co-Managing Director & CTO of CertifAI, and Rawad Traboulsi, CTO of Genova.ai, this small, focused group meets regularly to discuss the unique challenges and opportunities faced by tech leaders in growing startups. What does 𝙦𝙪𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮 mean in AI, and why does it matter now more than ever? Here’s what you need to know from our event! Last week, MISSION KI hosted a discussion at the Campus about this with Maximilian Poretschkin, Team Leader AI Assurance and Certification team at the Fraunhofer Institute for Intelligent Analysis and Information Systems (IAIS). Here are 5 main takeaways 🔸Data Spaces: Key for AI Development MISSION KI emphasizes data spaces as crucial infrastructure for AI, enabling secure and sovereign data sharing within and across sectors. The project is developing practical solutions to enhance data space interoperability and compliance to improve the data foundation for AI. 🔸Voluntary AI Quality Standard: Bridging the Gap A new voluntary standard for AI quality aims to guide companies, especially SMEs, in demonstrating trustworthiness and navigating the complexities of the AI Act. The standard focuses on low-risk applications but offers insights relevant to high-risk scenarios. 🔸AI Value Chain Complexity: Information Sharing is Key The AI Act's requirements, especially for high-risk systems, necessitate extensive information sharing across the AI value chain. This presents challenges in explaining AI decisions to affected individuals and ensuring compliance, particularly with the involvement of foundation models. 🔸Operationalizing the AI Act: Uncertainty and Trade-offs Vague legal terms, evolving standards, and inherent trade-offs between AI requirements (e.g., explainability vs. accuracy) create uncertainty in operationalizing the AI Act. This emphasizes the need for clear guidelines and support for companies, particularly startups, to navigate compliance and foster innovation. 🔸Global AI Regulation: EU as a Potential Trailblazer While some nations are closely observing the EU's approach to AI regulation, others prioritize innovation and market freedom, viewing the EU as a testing ground. The effectiveness of the EU's strategy, particularly in balancing innovation and risk mitigation, will likely influence future global AI regulation trends. As AI continues to shape our world, ensuring quality and trustworthiness isn’t just a regulatory requirement, it’s a strategic imperative, and conversations like this help navigate!
