Does music change our perception of visual art? Researchers from our Institute investigated this fascinating question in a recently published study. In collaboration with the Kentler International Drawing Space (Brooklyn, New York, USA), they investigated whether the deliberate combination of drawings with selected pieces of music leads to a change in the viewing time and aesthetic preference of the recipients. Info

Lullaby, pop song, opera: Researchers at the MPIEA have been wondering what aesthetic effect different types of vocalizations have on their listeners. They studied not only three styles of singing, but also two types of speech. In their search for the underlying mechanisms of voice preferences, they realized how individual they are. We are excited 🤩 to announce the launch of our new #event series #LibraryTalks 📚! #Libraries are places of aesthetic experience, but also places for people to meet. Our new #eventseries builds on this by bringing together scholars, practitioners and everyone interested in conversations around all matters of #aesthetics. In the first edition, “The Emergence of #Jungle in the 1990s,” on Saturday, November 9, DJ Stretch (AKO Beatz Music) and musicologist Owen Green (MPIEA) will discuss the development of the genre in the UK in the 1990s. In cooperation with the “Bass Saturnalia” party series, DJ Stretch will be playing at Frankfurt's #Silbergold Club in the evening. 🕺 The event will take place at the Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics in Frankfurt am Main and will be held in English. Join us for our 1st Annual #Conference on #AestheticDevelopment on November 7, 2024 at the Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics, Frankfurt am Main! Children engage with the #arts 🎨 🎵 from an early age and express themselves in a variety of ways. This raises important questions for the understanding of #aesthetic #development in different #art forms, which we would like to discuss. Keynotes by Laura Cirelli, PhD (University of Toronto Scarborough), Emily S. Cross (ETH Zürich), Natalia Kucirkova (Universitetet i Stavanger (UiS)), and Ellen Winner (Boston College) will inspire. Researchers from all fields are welcome! Further information and registration: https://lnkd.in/e6Ds4fcg
