Years ago, we led an EU project called #LbLbrane, membranes made by layer-by-layer deposition of polyelectrolytes on support membranes. Since then, products have seen the market from the inspiring team. Xflow Pentair, with Jens Potreck, one of the most active project partners, turned the knowledge gained into a commercial product. Other project members are today the brains behind companies such as #NXFiltration. Such background and success stories are well known in the water and nanofiltration community. Less well-known is the story of Daniel Menne, the project leader of #LbLbrane, which focused on the production of LbL membrane modules (not just small membrane pieces). Before any government program stimulated #RDM research data management, he had already internalized the concept of #FAIR data and had the vision to start a company to facilitate data management in #membrane companies. This was inspired by the large amount of data and metadata generated by the membrane systems of our spin-off Demcon #Con-vergence, founded by Felix Broens. Recipes and manufacturing parameters, together with performance parameters, became almost unmanageable in size. This was the birth of FurthrMind, the research data management company. Recently, they have announced new ways to build and expand the community that I think are important to share with you: https://lnkd.in/ekD9_NRQ We have been using FURTHRmind for years and it has proven to be an indispensable tool for our data management. Moving away from Excel was one of the best decisions we made for our efficiency, productivity, and data reliability. FAIR data is only valuable if you work with the data. Deniz Rall used all the data we had on LbL membranes and developed an #ANN network methodology to reverse engineer membranes from process requirements back to manufacturing. https://lnkd.in/eJWipkwd We are continuing this successful deep tech journey with naion.tech, with Milan Abel (business development), Daniel Felder (AI-based process and product design) and Ilka Rose (membrane research and production) - building the next exciting venture.
