1st day at work: What's the worst thing which can happen to you? I’ve been forgotten at my first working day as PhD student. October 2005: I've arrived early in the morning, around 8:27 am, at the university. As always: a little bit early. Been very excited about my scientific origin of life project. Couldn't wait to start. How would my new colleagues be? How would my new boss be? How would the new lab be? Well - the door to the lab was closed. Waited for 30 minutes: Noone. Got more an more nervous. Toilet - lab - toilet - lab. At 8:58 am another person passed by: Lars Sonnerberg as I've learnt later. Lars was a PhD student at another team. He realised that I was nervous and asked me:"What are you waiting for?" - "Dieter" was my response. "Dieter and his team are in the mountains, they are on a team trip." WOW - my new boss has forgotten me. Left me alone - at my very first working day. My motivation: gone. My excitement: gone. I'll remember this forever. And I've told myself: This should never, never ever happen to my people! This is one reason, why we put so much emotions and energy in having a great onboarding experience for our new people. We will not forget you. Never! When you look back at your 1st working day at your company: What do you remember? ————————— ♻️ Repost this if you find it interesting. ➕ Follow me if you want to learn more about leadership, the Honorable Entrepreneur and founding & scaling of a profitable biotech company like NanoTemper.

I have been hesitant to highlight certain people I follow directly but I am making an exception for Philipp Baaske as his posts are amazingly enlightening, insightful, and entertaining. If you are in the business of bio and/or strive to be a better leader you should follow him as well. A long time ago I was introduced to NanoTemper Technologies when I worked at Base Pair Biotechnologies, Inc. and though I never used their instruments directly Philipp and his team were very engaging and eager to assist our #aptamer measurement needs. Since then he has grown the company significantly and shares his knowledge through his dynamic posts. Worth the follow https://lnkd.in/gAbNwEyC

CEO & CFO meeting of the German Biotechs in Erfurt: our 3 and a half big wishes: 1. Enable the big Pensions Funds to invest in Biotech. 2. Government must invest in infrastructure & education. 3. Strengthen translation from science to industry. The next one is a wish to ourselves: 3,5. Stand up and raise our voices for Biotech & our values: show, that we save lives with what we do. Show, that what we do is important for our society. What are your biggest wishes? P.S. My keynote about the Honorable Entrepreneur resonated very strongly. We are all driven by similar values. ————————— ♻️ Repost this if you find it interesting. ➕ Follow me if you want to learn more about leadership, the Honorable Entrepreneur and founding & scaling of a profitable biotech company like NanoTemper.

Don’t hire people for what they've done in the past. Hire people for what they will do in the future! We all know this: someone starts in your team. Perfect candidate. Awesome CV. Impressive achievements in well known companies. And then… it fails. It just doesn’t work. And everything was so promising. Welcome to the trap! You’ve overweighted the past. Didn’t look at the “fit for future” skills. Happened to me a lot. The reality is: if someone did great in the past. Even in THE top companies. This does absolutely not mean, that this person will do great. In the future. In your team. The past: just a hint. A good CV is just a hint. Necessary but not sufficient. Have a look if this person listens. Is willing to learn. Can adapt. Has the right mindset. How do you predict the fit for the future? ————————— Like my content? Click my name + follow + 🔔

Leadership: Don’t be nice. Be kind! Get out of your comfort zone where it hurts. There you’ll learn the most. We’ve discussed these and more leadership wisdoms in London. At a charity event for teens:)unite fighting cancer. The most important learning for me: As a leader, you are not alone. It may feel like this. And a lot tell you, that leaders are alone “at the top”. The reality: just met 71 awesome people - all here to share & support. It is just up for us to ask for help. I am sure, some will become friends. Seldom felt so inspired after a summit. What event inspired you the most?
