Day 1 of MEDICA - Leading International Trade Fair MEDICINE + SPORTS Conference: A Milestone for European Sports Medicine and Longevity Science The first day of the MEDICA MEDICINE + SPORTS Conference was a resounding success, marking a significant breakthrough in European sports medicine and offering an inspiring exploration of the dimensions of longevity. The event opened with a warm welcome by Christian Grosser, Director of Health and Medical Technologies, and Christian Stammel, CEO of Wearable Technologies AG. A highlight of the day was the announcement by Prof. Herbert Löllgen of a historic milestone: Sports Medicine is now officially recognized as a full medical specialty at the EU level, following 18 years of dedicated efforts and advocacy—a monumental achievement. Key Focus: Longevity Science The main theme of the day was longevity, with Dr. med. Lutz Graumann chairing the session and delivering a compelling keynote on “The Science of Aging: Key Factors Influencing Biological Age and the Role of Digital Diagnostics.” The esteemed panel of speakers provided deep insights into the science of aging, addressing crucial factors such as sleep, movement, epigenetics, brain plasticity, cognitive training, and diagnostics: - Alen Juginović, M.D. Juginović (Harvard Medical School) shared groundbreaking research on sleep and its role in longevity. - Dr. Alexander Auer presented new insights into key biomarkers for early detection of cardiovascular diseases. - Prof. Wilhelm Bloch (Sports University Cologne) explored the “functional genome,” offering an in-depth understanding of epigenetics. - Dr. Moritz Völker-Albert (Molecular Analytics) introduced a practical epigenetic profiling tool, bringing advanced insights into real-world application. - Dr. Wouter Vints discussed the role of exerkines in enhancing cognitive function. - Prof. Claudia Voelcker-Rehage and - Ass.
