We are pleased to announce that NOCON has been appointed as monitoring trustee in Europe's first commitment case under the Foreign Subsidies Regulation (FS.100011). The European Commission investigated the acquisition by the Emirates Telecommunications Group (e&) of PPF Telecom Group and was concerned that e& may have been granted foreign subsidies that could distort the EU internal market. To address the Commission’s concerns, e& and the Emirates Investment Authority offered a commitments package including a prohibition of any financing from the EIA and e& to PPF’s activities in the EU internal market (subject to certain exceptions). NOCON will monitor compliance with the commitments throughout the term of the commitments package. #FSR #remedies #monitoringtrustee

Last week, our partner Wolfgang Nothhelfer attended the ICN Merger Workshop in Taipei, Taiwan. It was a great opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with representatives of competition authorities from around the world.
It was an honour to participate in the Merger Workshop organized by the International Competition Network (ICN) in Taipei, Taiwan. I attended in my capacity as non-governmental adviser to the Competition and Markets Authority. It was a pleasure to discuss the latest developments in merger control and hypothetical case studies of mergers including the #design and #monitoring of possible #remedies. It was also great to connect with officials from competition authorities around the world and other NGAs. I’d like to thank the Taiwanese Fair Trade Commission for their hospitality and excellent organization of the event and the CMA for the opportunity to be part of the UK delegation. Delighted to attend DG Competition‘s conference to celebrate 20 years of EU Merger Regulation 139/2004 in Brussels today. It has been fascinating to listen to Olivier Guersent, Prof. Mario Monti and Sir Philip Lowe in a fireside chat where they talked about the early times of merger control and the internal reforms in DG Comp they implemented. In her keynote speech Executive Vice-President Margrethe Vestager talked about the important role merger control has played in keeping the European economy competitive and resilient. She also emphasised the role of merger remedies to enable companies to merge and strengthen competitors (through divestments) at the same time. #20yearsEUMR
