Happy Clinical Trials Day to everyone involved in this industry! Whether you're a participant, researcher, investigator, or partner, this day is significant to the whole industry! On this day in 1747, Scottish physician James Lind performed the first documented in-human trial. Since then, pivotal milestones have shaped global standards in clinical research. For instance, placebo control was introduced in 1800, and in 1947, Dr. Hill in the UK conducted the first randomized trial, showcasing the benefits of randomization over previous methods. Now, randomized, double-blind, and placebo-controlled trials (affectionately known as #RDBPCTs among experts) are considered the gold standard for most research projects. So, in a nutshell: · 𝑾𝒉𝒚 𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒐𝒎𝒊𝒛𝒆? To ensure fair comparisons between new and standard treatments. By randomly assigning treatments to participants, it ensures that each group has similar characteristics, eliminating possible biased results. · 𝑾𝒉𝒚 𝒃𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈? In a randomized controlled trial, blinding both patients and medical staff to the treatment (or placebo) being administered helps prevent bias from expectations or perceptions. This ensures that any observed effects are due to the treatment itself because, if the treatment is known, patients or doctors may consciously or unconsciously record biased evaluations that do not reflect reality. · 𝑾𝒉𝒚 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆𝒃𝒐? To prove that a new treatment really works and it's not just a placebo effect, the results from people who got the treatment with those who got a placebo are compared to find out what intervention really works. We hope you find this brief overview helpful! If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us at info@oct-clinicaltrials.com. Our MedSci experts will be delighted to assist you in organizing a trial adhering to modern GCP standards. #clinicaltrialsday #placebo #clinicaltrials #croservices #clinicaltrialseasterneurope #jameslind
