☄️ In the early hours of Wednesday morning, the sight of space debris reentering the atmosphere was seen in northern Germany. Daniel Lück, our SSA Engineer, spoke about reentries and the potential effects of uncontrolled ones during an interview with SAT.1 Regional. It's worth mentioning that this isn't the first uncontrolled reentry of 2025. While accidents will always happen, all space actors need to take steps to minimize risks. Having re-orbit and de-orbit strategies embedded in the design phase doesn't only benefit the operators themselves by maximizing the efficiency of their mission. It is also a necessity both for the sustainability of the space environment and the safety of aviation and assets on Earth. Recognizing the need for this specific type of debris mitigation, the OKAPI team is supporting operators to mitigate such risks already from the pre-launch stage. Check the link in our comments to learn more about how to build a safe de-orbit strategy👇 #spacedebris #spacesustainability #spaceoperations #spacemission

We are happy to share with you the news of our latest contract with the European Space Agency - ESA and Technische Universität Braunschweig. Together with TU Braunschweig, we will develop the next generation of the Agency's reference model for the space debris environment. The upgraded model will have advanced capabilities to improve collision risk assessments and support safer and more sustainable space operations. "This contract represents another step forward in our commitment to the Zero Debris Approach. As contributors and early signatories of the Zero Debris Charter, we are dedicated to translating these principles into tangible actions. The MASTER project is a demonstration of how we can work collaboratively to minimize space debris and ensure a sustainable future for space exploration.", said our Head of Projects, Jonas Radtke. #ESA #spacedebris #spacesustainability #spaceindustry #europe

Space Traffic Coordination: How do we move from guidelines to action? In this article, we go into: 👉 The challenges of coordinating satellites in a congested orbital environment 👉 The importance of data sharing and "rules of the road" 👉 How OKAPI:Astrolabe's protocol system facilitates safe operations As Aarti Holla-Maini, director of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), has said, "There's no time to lose on space traffic coordination. With so many objects being launched into space, we have to do everything we can to ensure space safety, and that means facilitating the sharing of information between operators, be they public or private, to avoid collisions." Read all about it 👇 Do you have thoughts? Let us know in the comments. To hear more about it Astrolabe, reach out to our team 👉 contact@okapiorbits.com #spacesustainability #spaceindustry #spaceoperations #spacetrafficmanagement

📣Yesterday IADC published the latest updates on its Space Debris Mitigation Guidelines. The IADC guidelines demonstrate a comprehensive and multi-faceted approach to mitigating collision risks in the increasingly complex space environment. By addressing the issue from multiple angles, the Committee recognizes that there is no single solution. What is the key focus of the new additions? Large Constellations. 👉 The importance of constellation management, acknowledging the potential for collisions even among closely coordinated spacecraft. 👉The risk of inter-plane conjunctions: the point where orbital planes intersect, creating higher probabilities of collisions. 👉 The need to maintain safe distances from other spacecraft, particularly in highly utilized orbits, where the density of objects is already high. 👉 The recommendation to use less congested orbits for less reliable spacecraft and demonstrators 👉 The emphasis on minimizing cumulative risk from re-entries of constellation components. Unfamiliar with the IADC Space Debris Mitigation Guidelines? They are a set of best practices for minimizing space debris. These guidelines address key areas such as limiting debris released during normal operations, preventing on-orbit break-ups and collisions, and ensuring proper post-mission disposal of spacecraft. Detailed explanations and implementation guidance can be found in the document below👇. We know very well staying compliant can be complicated. If you want to keep it simple and with minimal overhead, you can reach out to our Soteria team for a check 👉 contact@okapiorbits.com #SpaceDebris #IADC #DebrisMigitation #SpaceSustainability #SpaceIndustry #SpaceOperations

What happened last week at the Space Debris Risk Assessment and Mitigation Analysis Workshop by the European Space Agency - ESA?🛰️ Frederik Läuferts showcased #OKAPIOrbits' latest work as part of ESA's DMF07 activity, and its development over the past two years. As prime contractor, we led the effort to update ESA's DRAMA 4.0 framework to DRAMA 4.1, integrating results from various other #ESA activities. This update significantly extends the application's capabilities, now enabling (among others) trackability, light pollution analysis, and electric collision avoidance maneuvers. On Friday, Frederik conducted a user #workshop to showcase the new framework functionality, providing attendees with a hands-on demonstration and facilitating a Q&A session to address usage and implementation considerations. If you want to learn more about this, feel free to drop him a message 📤 #SpaceDebris #SpaceSustainability #Space #spaceindustry
